It’s what you do afterwards that counts. No?

It’s what you do afterwards that counts. No? I do think clarification of where you are going with this is needed and a must. Because as worded, it sounds as if the statement means that reading God's word is pointless and meaningless, and we can only become a Christian through outward works. For example.... teaching people that we can only be saved by only worshiping on the sabbath. What I just said is an outward work and nowhere in the bible does it teach that we become saved by what we do; those who try to do so, are putting the cart before the horse. Prayer and daily bible reading together, waters and feeds the heart and mind, the things of God. Reading the bible renews your mind. As we read God's written word, we come to know Him more and more and His will for our lives. The bible is “the knowledge of God”. Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. 2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, The ten commandments are not the good works that save us, nor is it the works James is speaking of. Galatians 5:22,23 is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Faith is shown and known by the fruits of the spirit, and thus is the "works" that James alludes to. As we come to know God more and more, we will produce the works listed in the Galatians passage. As we grow in these we lose the desire for the “old life”, and our attitude towards it and actions change through the Holy Spirits work in our hearts. The point is that if we don't do the things the Lord told us to do in the Bible, then we are no better off then before we read the Bible. Wouldn't you agree? I will go a step farther. If we don't do the things the Lord told us to do, then we can't understand the Gospel.

No more than going to Church makes a person a Christian.
