Calling all who have something to say about the resurrection of Christ.

Here's my opening gambit:

Psa 16:10  For you will not leave my soul in hell; neither will you suffer your Holy One to see corruption.

Prior to Christ teaching them in person, this prophecy from the pen of David would have given the Jews both something to have faith in and something to disagree about, since those who were of the Sadducees persuasion did not believe the afterlife or the resurrection to be true.

Peter makes reference to David's prophecy of Christ's resurrection:

Act 2:23-33  Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, you have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:  (24)  Whom God has raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.  (25)  For David speaks concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:  (26)  Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope:  (27)  Because you will not leave my soul in hell, neither will you suffer your Holy One to see corruption.  (28)  You have made known to me the ways of life; you shall make me full of joy with your countenance.  (29)  Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.  (30)  Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;  (31)  He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.  (32)  This Jesus has God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.  (33)  Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he has shed forth this, which you now see and hear.

Quote from Believer's Bible Commentary on v.24

It was not possible for death to hold Him a prisoner because:

1. The character of God demanded His resurrection. He had died, the Sinless for the sinful. God must raise Him as proof of His complete satisfaction with the redemptive work of Christ.

2. The prophecies of the OT demanded His resurrection. This is the particular point which Peter presses in the following verses.

See Isa 25:8  He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the LORD has spoken it.

In Solomon's Porch Peter again preaches about the resurrection of Christ, and how faith in Him led to the lame man's healing:

Act 3:11-16  And as the lame man which was healed held Peter and John, all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon's, greatly wondering.  (12)  And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, You men of Israel, why marvel you at this? or why look you so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk?  (13)  The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified His Son Jesus; whom you delivered up, and denied Him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go.  (14)  But you denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you;  (15)  And killed the Prince of life, whom God has raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses.  (16)  And His name through faith in His name has made this man strong, whom you see and know: yea, the faith which is by Him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.

After Peter and John are apprehended with some force by the religious leaders who are opposed to his preaching, Peter sees the occasion as another opportunity to preach about the raising of Christ from the dead by God.

Act 4:1-12  And as they spake unto the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees, came upon them,  (2)  Being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead.  (3)  And they laid hands on them, and put them in hold unto the next day: for it was now eventide.  (4)  Howbeit many of them which heard the word believed; and the number of the men was about five thousand.  (5)  And it came to pass on the morrow, that their rulers, and elders, and scribes,  (6)  And Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem.  (7)  And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have you done this?  (8)  Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, You rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,  (9)  If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole;  (10)  Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by Him does this man stand here before you whole.  (11)  This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.  (12)  Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

There is no stopping the preaching of things which the disciples of Christ know to be true.

Cornelius in Caesarea sees a vision in which an angel instructs him to send for Peter who is in Joppa. Peter also has a vision to advise him that God was about to open the door of faith to the Gentiles.

After travelling to Caesarea, Peter and the brethren that have come with him from Joppa, take the bold step of meeting with Cornelius and the other Gentiles gathered in his house. Here Peter once again preaches the Good News, testifying about the resurrection of Christ with first-hand knowledge.

Act 10:38-43  How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with Him.  (39)  And we are witnesses of all things which He did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree:  (40)  Him God raised up the third day, and showed Him openly;  (41)  Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to us, who did eat and drink with Him after He rose from the dead.  (42)  And He commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is He which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead.  (43)  To Him give all the prophets witness, that through His name whosoever believeth in Him shall receive remission of sins.

To the astonishment of the Jewish Christians gathered, the Holy Spirit is poured out on the Gentiles, enabling them to speak in tongues and magnify God. Peter calls for water so that these Gentiles can be baptised in the name of the LORD now that they also have received the Holy Spirit.

While Paul and his company are in the synagogue at Antioch in Pisidia on the Jewish sabbath, after the law and the prophets have been read, an invitation from the synagogue rulers gives Paul the opportunity to bring a word of exhortation to the people.

Paul preaches about the resurrection of Christ and points out that those who conspired to have Him put to death plainly did not know Him to be the Messiah.

Act 13:26-42  (26)  Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you fears God, to you is the word of this salvation sent.  (27)  For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew Him (the Messiah) not, nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning Him.  (28)  And though they found no cause of death in Him, yet desired they Pilate that he should be slain.  (29)  And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulchre.  (30)  But God raised him from the dead:  (31)  And he was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people.  (32)  And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers,  (33)  God has fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he has raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.  (34)  And as concerning that He raised Him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David.  (35)  Wherefore he says also in another psalm, Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.  (36)  For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:  (37)  But He, whom God raised again, saw no corruption.  (38)  Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins:  (39)  And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses.  (40)  Beware therefore, lest that come upon you, which is spoken of in the prophets;  (41)  Behold, you despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which you shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you.  (42)  And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath.

It seems the Gentile proselytes to Judaism were more receptive to what Paul preached than some of the Jews, but by all accounts there was a strong desire by many to hear more of this.

Act 13:43-44  Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God.  (44)  And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God.

Jesus raised this wretched sinner from death. Colossians 3:1-3

Sometimes I like to ponder that scripture with Revelation 12

Revelation 12:12 Therefore rejoice, you heavens(AE)
and you who dwell in them!

Wow. That really speaks to me, and this commentary quote is right across both your verses, Whyme.

Quote from Albert Barnes on Colossians 3:3

For ye are dead - Dead to the world; dead to sin; dead to earthly pleasures. On the meaning of the word “dead,” see the Rom_6:2 note; Eph_2:1 note. The idea of the apostle is, that as Christ became literally dead in the tomb, so we, in virtue of our connection with him, have become dead to sin, to worldly influences, pleasures, and ambition. Or, in other words, we are to be to them as if we were dead, and they had no more influence over us than the things of earth had over him in the grave; Notes, Rom_6:2.
And your life - There is still life. Though dead to one class of objects, you are alive to others. See the sentiment here expressed, explained at large in the notes at Gal_2:20.
Is hid with Christ in God - The language here is taken probably from treasure which is “hid” or concealed in a place of security; and the idea is, that eternal life is an invaluable jewel or treasure, which is laid up with Christ in heaven where God is. There it is safely deposited. It has this security, that it is with the Redeemer, and that he is in the presence of God; and thus nothing can reach it or take it away. It is not left with us, or intrusted to our keeping - for then it might be lost as we might lose an invaluable jewel; or it might be wrested from us; or we might be defrauded of it; but it is now laid up far out of our sight, and far from the reach of all our enemies, and with one who can “keep that which we have committed to him against that day;” 2Ti_1:12. Our eternal life, therefore, is as secure as it could possibly be made. The true condition of the Christian is, that he is “dead” to this world, but that he has immortal life in prospect, and that is secure, being in the holy keeping of his Redeemer, now in the presence of God. From this it follows that he should regard himself as living for heaven.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
