Why is this? I also read about it originally being a Pagan holiday, which I am hopelessly uninformed about can someone fill me in here? Thanks! I like to keep it simple: 1) Jesus was not born on December 25th. It is likely He was born in the late spring to early summer. 2) December 25th was converted from the pagan observation of the winter solstice by the Roman church either by Constantine himself, or shortly after his conversion. The times are debatable, but that's not really the point. The point is that it is a religious observation that has little, if anything at all, to do with the actual birth of the Lord Jesus. 3) The Bible never commands us or sets precident for us to observe the birth of the Lord Jesus. It does, however commend us to the rememberance of the Lord's death and resurrection. Yet this rememberance is not set aside as a special day or event, but should be observed even daily. 4) While I personally do not observe this particular holiday, other to enjoy my time off from work and the company of my family, I do not object, prohibit, or belittle any believer that chooses to celebrate the observation of Jesus' birth. It matters not to me if He was born in the Winter, Spring or whatever...December 25th is the date I choose to celbrate His birth ( when else would I ? ) If we turned everything over to the devil because it "has pagan origins", well, what happiness would we have ? The Joy of the Lord is my strength
