What is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit (in present day)?

I am new here, so if this has been discussed, will someone please give the link.

I have thought or spoken things in the past which I fear may have been blasphemy.  ??? Thank you.

The Lord told the Pharisees that they were dangerously close to Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit when the said the things the Lord did were from the devil.   He doesn't really come out and tell us exactly what it is, but I wouldn't go around saying things that I don't understand are necessarily satanic.

Personally, I think if you are at all worried about commiting such a sin, then you haven't done it, because there wouldn't be any conviction of the Holy Spirit within you.

My understanding is that the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit involves not necessarilly denying him as a person of the Trinity...nor questions or even doubts concerning spiritual gifts...

My understanding is that the blasphemy against the holy spirit which is spoken of as the unpardonable sin...is when we

reject the truth of Christ reborn in our hearts...therefore only a Christian can indeed commit the unpardonable sin...

For example...

A Christian who has known the salvation of Christ and experienced the presence of the Holy Spirit in his or her life then denies Christ, denies salvation, and hence denies the work of the Holy Spirit in their heart.

I also heard it once said that if you are concerned enough to ask if you have committed the unpardonable sin...that is a definite sign that you have not committed it at all because your conscience is still tender enough to be concerned about sinning against God.

Those who have committed the unpardonable sin of blasphemy against the holy spirit have tasted of salvation...and rejected it for the sake of sin...they would not have a conscience concerned with their sin.

Instead of taking our word for it, why don't we look at scripture and see the context where Jesus used these words: The pharisees were saying the works of God were acually the works of satan.  You will find this in the book of Matthew chapter 12 verses 22-32

Ephriam is right regarding the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.  The Pharisees attributed to Satan the powers of the miracles done by Christ instead of the Holy Spirit. Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is unpardonable only because those who do so have rejected the only source that can possibly bring them to restoration with God.

Greetings All,

Okay, I think we agree that "Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit" is an UNPARDONABLE sin. So let's take a look at several verses which I believe apply:

Mark 3:28-30 Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: 29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation: 30 Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.

Notice here that ALL sins, even "blaspheme" against the Son of Man CAN be forgiven, BUT the Blaspheme against the Holy Ghost will NEVER be forgiven. Here is a pretty clear definition of what Strong's says blaspheme is:

1) to speak reproachfully, rail at, revile, calumniate, blaspheme

Please note the "sin unto death" in the following:

Romans 6:16-22 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? 17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. 18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. 19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness. 20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. 21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. 22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

1 John 5:16-18 If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it. 17 All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death. 18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.

From the context of these verses we see that a "true" Christian CANNOT commit the UNPARDONABLE SIN because "he that is begotten of God keepeth himself".

So do you also realize that there is ANOTHER UNPARDONABLE SIN? Read the following:

Revelation 14:11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

Revelation 19:20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

So let me suggest that the MoB and Blaspheme of the Holy Spirit are one and the same. In contrast to this for the true Christians we see:

Revelation 7:2-3 And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea, 3 Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.

So we should also see EXAMPLE(s) given in the scriptures to show us just HOW "blaspheme of the Holy Spirit" might play out:

Acts 5:1-2 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, 2 And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet.

Acts 5:5 And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.

Acts 5:9-10 Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out. 10 Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.

Now the problem with Annanias & Sapphira was that the Holy Spirit was moving about touching the hearts of all the people to give all they had to the communal chest. But denying this, Annanias and Sapphira wanted to partake of the communal chest but still have some private stash for themself. They wanted their cake and eat it too. So in effect they denied that this was a move of the Holy Spirit or attributed to Him what amounted to be a lie. i.e. "I was led to give just this much by the Holy Spirit." When in fact, Peter knew differently, because the Holy Spirit was telling everyone to give WHOLE heartedly without reservation.

I realize I have to read into the text somewhat here, but whatever scenario you draw from the Annanias & Sapphira story, THIS WAS A SIN UNTO DEATH!

Blessings,

Dad Ernie

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
