Is the passage Ezekiel 31:9 specifically speaking of the tree of knowledge in the garden of Eden?

No. As we read the entire chapter , the writer is using tree's for symbolization and representations the nations.

Assyria in its day was noted, not only for its power, but for its beauty and influence over other nations. As Assyria fell, so too would Egypt. The chapter teaches us that it was God who made these nations into the powers that they were. The allegory here is that, like the trees in the garden, the great cedar’s glory (Assyria and or Egypt) is not of its own making; God blessed them with the kind of superlative beauty that would evoke jealousy among all the other trees (other nations under Assyria or Egypt) in the garden.”

Ezekiel was alluding to the fact that like Assyria, Egypt too even though a powerful nation would fall into ruin.

You are correct the chapter does talk about Assyria but i don't think the trees is only symbolic for it was inspired for a reason. For the first 200 yrs of the Assyrian empire it was small wasn't until Tiglath-Pileser III that it grow and conquered other places. though i do think it is mentioning two things at once.

The kings of Egypt and Tyre was the subject but the author behind their actions was imo something else, in 28 speaks of full of wisdom.

Ezekiel 28

12“Son of man, take up a lament for the king of Tyre and tell him that this is whatthe Lord GOD says: ‘You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.

13You were in Eden, the garden of God. Every kind of precious stone adorned you: ruby, topaz, and diamond, beryl, onyx, and jasper, sapphire, turquoise, and emerald. Your mountings and settings were crafted in gold, prepared on the day of your creation

Hi BeyondET.

In case you don't have access to any good commentaries here is the chapter comment from Matthew Henry's Commentary On The Whole Bible.

EZEKIEL 31

The prophecy of this chapter, as the two chapters before, is against Egypt, and designed for the humbling and mortifying of Pharaoh.

  • In passing sentence upon great criminals it is usual to consult precedents, and to see what has been done to others in the like case, which serves both to direct and to justify the proceedings.
  • Pharaoh stands indicted at the bar of divine justice for his pride and haughtiness, and the injuries he had done to God's people; but he thinks himself so high, so great, as not to be accountable to any authority, so strong, and so well guarded, as not to be conquerable by any force.
  • The prophet is therefore directed to make a report to him of the case of the king of Assyria, whose head city was Nineveh.

I. He must show him how great a monarch the king of Assyria had been, what a vast empire he had, what a mighty sway he bore; the king of Egypt, great as he was could not go beyond him (Eze_31:3-9).

II. He must then show him how like he was to the king of Assyria in pride and carnal security (Eze_31:10).

III. He must next read him the history of the fall and ruin of the king of Assyria, what a noise it made among the nations and what a warning it gave to all potent princes to take heed of pride (Eze_31:11-17).

IV. He must leave the king of Egypt to apply all this to himself, to see his own face in the looking-glass of the king of Assyria's sin, and to foresee his own fall through the perspective glass of his ruin (Eze_31:18).

Sounds like satan himself a two fold description of a king and a tree of knowledge.

Consider if you will these two divinely punitive prohibitions:

  1. The Genesis Prohibition: Gen 2:16-17  And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat:  (17)  But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat of it: for in the day that you eat thereof you shall surely die.
  2. The Revelation Prohibition: Rev 14:9-10  And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,  (10)  The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:

looking at Ezekiel 28 and the lament over the king of Tyre implies a heavenly account of something else as well.

Ezekiel 28

13 You were in Eden, the garden of God. Every kind of precious stone adorned you: ruby, topaz, and diamond, beryl, onyx, and jasper, sapphire, turquoise, and emerald. Your mountings and settings were crafted in gold, prepared on the day of your creation.

17 Your heart grew proud of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor; so I cast you to the earth; I made you a spectacle before kings.

similar to Ezekiel 31 I think the garden wasn't a depiction of something only on earth. a tree of good and evil sounds like a corrupted tree, the ones who envied it probably followed it.

With regard to the TOTKOGAE the Bible doesn't specify anything other than the divine prohibition.

Satan's lie to Eve however gives us insight into his pride and subsequent envy of God, and of the relationship between God and His newly created beings, Adam & Eve. The Ezekiel passage is not a direct reference to the TOTKOGAE, but of course it was in the Garden of Eden with all the others. After Adam & Eve were exiled from Eden no-one was allowed in to access or partake of any trees.

Gen 3:4-5  Then the serpent said to the woman, "You will not surely die.  (5)  For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."

Gen 3:22-24  Then the LORD God said, "Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he put out his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever"—  (23)  therefore the LORD God sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken.  (24)  So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.

the bible doesn't directly say what happened, why satan rebelled but in those chapters it gives a little insight on it.

the serpent imo is a false prophet.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
