k I was going to read some scripture and ehad to bed, well that kind of backfired i read some and now I have a question in Joshua 2 basically 2 spies go into jericho to kind of feel out the town so to speak. now the two spies go to rahabs house and lodged there but somehow the king found out and sent men to rahab asking for the two men that had come to her, but she had hid them on the roof ( to my understanding) but she told the guards that she didnt know where they went josh 2:4 and then 2:5 she says it was about the time of the shutting of the gate and they went out but she was nto sure where. I just have a question, not that I am doubting God but didn't she lie to the guards ( granted she was helping men of God) but still you know? kidn of curious was she a believer non believer i am assuming the men with joshua were. further in the chapter she goes up to talk to them men on the roof and talks about how she knows to fear their God because he dried up the red sea for them etc. so guess i am confused with, did she lie to save brethren or was she a non believer and kind of started seekign God after she lied? maybe I am misreading thanks =)

Josh

going to pray about it and go to bed before i go nuts thinking on it lol

( Funny, I was just reading through Joshua two nights ago so this is fresh in my mind).

I believe that she was in fear just like the rest of the town was, this may have been since she was born, we don't know her age, so she believed that anyone that fought against them would most likely be slaughtered, so she exchanged their two lifes ( by lieing) for her own and that of her relatives. She beleived that their G-d was mighty, she knew nothing of the 10 commandments nor that she was doing anything but trying to save lives.

I believe , as many Jews do , that to lie to save someones life is mercy and not a sin. There were many Christians that lied to the Germans and Poles etc during WWII to save Jewish lives, and I do not believe that the L-Rd finds them guilty for that at all. And Jews consider them righteous gentiles.

I agree with this. Rahab found her way into the "hall of faith" in relation to this incident (Heb 11:31).

We also see God blessing the midwives in Exodus Ch.1 for lying to the Egyptians in order to save the lives of the babies.

Exo 1:15 And the king of Egypt spake to the Hebrew midwives, of which the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah:

Exo 1:16 And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live.

Exo 1:17 But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.

Exo 1:18 And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said unto them, Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the men children alive?

Exo 1:19 And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwives come in unto them.

Exo 1:20 Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty.

Exo 1:21 And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses.

In the passage above the midwives lie to Pharaoh in order to save the lives of the children. They are subsequently blessed by God because they did not kill the babies out of fear of God.

I don't know if this will help, but the book of James has a short passage on this, it speaks of the faith which she had.

If you look back, through the archives I think it is in General Discussion, there was quite an intensive study done on that very subject some months back.

There are other instances in the Bible where lies were told in order to spare lives or to further a specific cause for God. In particular, the 2 spies who were hidden in a well that a woman had covered over with a cloth and spread grain on it... I believe the men were some of David's followers, and their pursuers were from Saul? ... Well, anyway... my personal point of view is that it is easier to confess to a lie later, than it would be to bear the guilt and conscience of death or harm to an innocent person as the result of telling the truth. I dont say this as a point to be debated. This is all I have to say about it.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
