Is yoga okay for Christians to practice?  I'm bothered by the meditation/chanting stuff in it.  What do you think?  I personally want to stay away from it.

Hi,

Welcome to this WORTHY board,

I struggled with this too and decided for years and years that Christians should stay away from it.

But I think I'm changing my mind a little on this, because I can't see anything wrong with the exercise part and I think its good for you to do.

I do have a problem with chanting and meditating and would never agree on that part, but why not just exercise and forget the mediating? Its just like any other exercise.

Alot of other exercise groups use yoga exercise in their program too.

Hope this helps??

God Bless,Angels

I think this is one of those "gray areas" we are always arguing over.  I wouldn't participate because of the "eastern religion"  conotation.  If God says it's ok for you then, go ahead.  Don't forget to pray first though and make sure your answer is from Him and not your own desires.  "Whatever is not of faith, is sin".

Greetings,

I believe we should always examine the "roots" of whatever we may get involved in. The oriental arts - yoga, tae che, karate, thai-kwon-do, etc, all are based on oriental customs and philosophies and idolatries. The Lord says: There is a way that seemeth right unto man, but the end thereof is death.

If you wish to incorporate physical, healthful exercise into your daily worship, I don't see any problem with that, after all "Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost, which is in you and ye have of God, therefore glorify God in YOUR body AND in YOUR spirit, which ARE Gods!"

Just my thoughts.

God Bless,

Dad Ernie

Why don't you put a Worship CD in your Walkman and go for a prayer walk?

Keep looking and searching. I did read in a book somewhere that the positions that people do in yoga are pagan worship toward the sun god. You know the "snake like" position?

Praise YAHWEH I never participated. I found this information before yoga came to the gym I was going to at the time.

In the season we are in, all should be weary of anything we do not know for sure comes from OUR FATHER YAHWEH.

Satan is tricky!

We debated this on another thread, look up YOGA in the search and see if you can find it.  We found out that the ultimate stage of YOGA is levatation and that can be nothing but demonic.  The Bible tells us to fill our minds with the Word and to meditate on Christ while YOGA tells to empty the mind.  An empty mind is a great place for demons, I would stay far away from YOGA!

I agree with wordsower. Anything that is not of Christ must be of something against Him. Just my thoughts....eric
