A beautiful people.

They are good people, but it is a bit primitive. When I was younger, I camped out a lot but now I like hot and cold running water and an air conditioner.

When we were kids we cared less about the water and the garden hose worked best. We never even heard about AC, and had two space heaters for heat. When my dad bought a swamp cooler finally and installed it in the kitchen window, all us kids and neighbor kids would push up the chairs and stand in front of the cool blowing wind. That was heaven.

Now like you I have AC and heat in my shop to use here in central Texas when building my commercial machine enclosures for shipment. Working 50yrs outside in the cold and Texas heat I felt I finally deserved the comforts. God has blessed me and has shown much favor, and I praise Him for His faithfulness.

Have you ever ridden on those customized kamikaze Jeepneys from WWII?

I still  don't understand why she is getting the blame for getting married at 16 and in the 10th grade when it has been stated that one that young cannot make those kinds of decisions as their brains are not developed.

I still say if the OP would tell us the year this was written, it might or might not explain things.

the year wasnt posted, I dunno if anyone blamed her. My thing was it was the 44 year old man who i was perturbed at.

I'd be better able to assess this is I knew what year it was written.  "Dear Abby" began in 1956.  Life was different for women [including young women] back then.

You said two things that do not dovetail.

You said she should have "counted the cost".  Then you said her "brain wasn't fully developed into adulthood".

How can she count the cost if her brain is not an adult brain?

Lets not be difficult. One part showed the importance of considering the cost. The other pointed out that the near 50 year old man shouldnt pursue whats basically a child and asking where her parents were in this.

I have and it just goes to show that they are decent people because I did not have to pay double even though I am twice the size of the average Filipino. It is amazing how many students they can get on a 100 cc motorcycle with a side car.

They made me get on

Yes, it is his job to teach her that her behavior is not appropriate.

Ah!  I found it.

It's in a book first printed in 1958 and reprinted in 2007.

I didn't read the book, but I read the table of contents and the title of this letter, "Either too young or too old" on the site that advertised the 2007 re-print.

I knew when I saw a 16  year old [10th grade] married to a 44 year old that this was a long time ago.

The book of stories by Dear Abby was printed in 1958.  The woman who wrote the letter was at the time, 30.

That means she was born in 1928 and her husband born in 1900.

And there it is.

So... where's Christ in this? Its like listening to Billy or is son when they would talk anywhere to anyone. What always comes out is how Christ came died for your sins. Marriage is no different. To leave Him out not talk about Him. If HE is no there ..there is no hope.

Dear Abby was a pen name. Her real name was Pauline Phillips. She died in 2013. She might have given wise advise but I don't know if she was a Christian. We really need to bring our issues to God not Dear Abby.
