The Word of God is Jesus Christ, who is God's expression, explanation, and definition (John 1:1; 14; 18).  Jesus' speaking is the speaking of God, His words are spirit and are life (John 6:63).

In His incarnation Jesus's speaking was God's speaking in the Son and by the Spirit.  In His resurrection and ascension Jesus' speaking is by God as the life-giving Spirit (1 Cor. 15:45; 2 Cor. 3:6; Rom. 8:2, 11).

The Scriptures are the testimony of Jesus Christ (John 3:31-34; 5:39), and they are the testimony of the ones who have seen the resurrected Christ (John 21:24; 1 John 1:2; Rev. 1:2; Acts 26:19).

The Scriptures are many things, but essentially they amount to one essential and most profound revelation.  That is, they are God's speaking to man through the prophets and apostles, and more importantly in the Son, by the Son, and through the Son as the Spirit (Heb. 1:1-2; Matt. 17:5).  If you do not have this revelation of the Scriptures then you are lacking in the necessary vision that God has given the church through His Son.  Through the resurrected Christ the Scriptures have been opened up to us (Luke 24:27, 32, 45; Matt 7:7).

Were it so that God was primarily concerned with the accuracy and originality of His holy writ, then certainly He would have preserved the originally letters penned by the apostles.  Likewise He would have retained the original instructions given to to Moses and all the prophets.  However, this is not the case.  We do not have those letters (And the fact that it is most probable that these Scriptures were written on velum, which is animal skin, and therefore their preservation would have been a natural potential anyway).  What we do have is the most accurate representation of the written revelation of God's speaking to men.

To argue that a certain translation, using a certain type of language, written at a certain time, from a particular manuscript, translated by certain persons, and authorized by a certain person, is simply ridiculous.  Since there is no possible way to compare the original penned manuscripts by the original authors with the later manuscripts copied by others, and since God apparently did not deem it of great importance to preserve the original documents, you have absolutely no way of knowing for certain whether or not the manuscripts used to translate a certain version is actually the original "word" of God.  You simply have to take it on faith.

I would suggest to you, however, that this type of argument is not only ridiculous, petty, and pointless (It serves more to divide believers than united them, and therefore, it must not be truly of God) it more importantly falls woefully short of God's intended purpose of the Scriptures!

Hi Ovedya! I appreciate what you stated but I do have a few comments and perhaps questions.

What you've written certainly sounds religious and no doubt impressed many on this board. I would've been among your biggest fans had I gotten the impression that you actually believed what you had written. I'm not sure if you just don't think about these things or you just wanted to sound very pious to the other members. Whatever the case, perhaps I can spur you on to further consideration and study of this most important issue.

I found it rather telling when you spent the first part of your post (seemingly) authoritatively quoting "scripture" to make your points. To the average reader it would seem that you actually believe these "scriptures" and hold them in high esteem. But I've been around these boards a few years now and I can tell when one is merely paying lipservice to the "holy writ". This I say because of your statement,

Would I burn my Bible? Probably not. I do need to get a different version though. I have a NIV Life Application and though the studies are excellent, there are abherrant things within the NIV I have only recently been made aware of.

All you have to do with any translation of the bible is give it to a non believer and tell them that this book will tell you were God is and how to find Him. If there is any soil that seeds can grow in there they will be planted. Before long they will be on this board debating which version they like the best or whether they should burn certain versions. The Spirit of man has not known enough to remove where Christ and God are and how they can be contacted from any version. So don't burn it, give it to a non believer, with the proper instructions and it will reap the Lord's purpose.

Isa 55

11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Sure, I'd be glad to.

"But I've been around these boards a few years now"

'These boards'=internet discussion/debate boards. I've been on many ezboards and such.

"I'm new to this board"

'This board'=this particular board. I'm new here. One look at how many posts I've made will prove this to be true. I just found this board in the last week or so.

I suppose I could've been a little more clear. I apologize for any confusion my words may have caused.

Believe me, brother, I know what you mean about 'weird'. I have a Bible website and I also moderate a Yahoo debate club----I've seen some really 'weird' ideas from "Christians".

Honestly, I find this type of board kind of hard to keep up with what is going on. The ezboards are fairly easy to follow discussions and the Yahoo clubs are the easiest. I like the fact that they allow you to receive the messages via email. This is very easy for me; I can receive them and respond quickly. But I digress!

Thanks for your understanding!

Hopefuly so, but so far you're not winning any points by implying that I am intentionally trying to sound poius in order to convince others, and that I'm not fully convinced myself. Were I not convinced at least a little, why would you think I would bother to post anything in the first place. That's silly. Maybe I've spent the last 2 1/2 years on this board just trying to convince others that I'm a really great guy (?). :lightbulb2:

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
