It apparently caused a huge stir because while it was influential and popular in the 90s and 2000s, the writer later renounced it and his faith. For example, there is a much higher divorce rate with people who were involved with premarital sex. Which, of course, everyone agrees is wrong. If we are to have one husband and one wife, then anyone else should be regarded as a brother or sister. Even when people have problems in a marriage, they should still be able to maintain a brother, sister relationship between them. My wife actually treats her brothers really good. So if she would just treat me as well as she treats them, I would be happy. Even our relationship was a lot better when her mom was still alive. Her mother use to back me up 100%. With that said looking back at it...it was only loosely biblically based...he had some good stuff but it wasn't really strongly founded biblically, just loosely. And it took it to far...took some things that should have been suggestions and made them legalistic while demonizing typical dating. Reality is a traditional courting approach is a great idea...but the Bible doesn't prohibit modern dating as long as it doesn't involve sex.
