Sailors in a Raft

God created Time. He sits on His Throne in heaven above it.

Unlike us He is not confined to it or by it.

Time is a river constantly flowing. We are sailors in a raft carried by the current of Time in one direction toward one destination. We do not know what lies ahead on the river, what is around the next bend. Perhaps it will be a pool of calm waters or perhaps a series of rapids or even a dreadful waterfall.

We know where the river has taken us for we can look back on our past journey but we cannot look far ahead down the river. We do not know how long the river is. God, from His position above the river, sees the entire length of the river. He knows its beginning and its end. He can step into the river at any place and change its course

This debate appears concluded. I will give a brief summary of my position that the dead are asleep, resting, and will awake when the Lord returns, resurrects the dead, and judges and rewards the saints.

Lazarus and the Rich Man

The story of Lazarus and the rich man is often used as an example to show that the good go to heaven and the evil to hell. It is found in Luke chapter 16: 19-31. Those who claim this story is an actual event and not a parable must explain various elements in the narrative that are obviously symbolic; the Bosom of Abraham, crumbs of the rich man's table, a drop of water, the great gulf. Further, it is obvious that both Lazarus and the rich man have been judged and have resurrected bodies. Both these events will happen when Christ returns, raises and judges the dead. So if it is an actual event then it is a prophesy of a future event.

However, it is a parable. And we shall discover exactly the meaning of the parable.
