In part of the 20th century it was regarded as a man thing. 

It was often identified with male sailors and bikers.

Today it seems to have come full circle; and in the 19th century it was quite widely regarded as as classy and womanly thing to do:

Tattoo parlors today - which are often more like salons now - reflect a coming full circle and it's not unusual for Christian women to receive designs in faith and family themes, right?

(Even though there will also be legalistic and reactionary viewpoints.)

So your daughter's choice in receiving the tattoo machine is not remotely unusual, right?

@Anne2 All the young ppl with Bible verses tattooed with whom I have spoken seem to have received them as witness tools.

@debrakay Maybe he's already waiting for your compliment about his latest Scripture tattoo?

Seems like getting tattooed with Scripture verses really makes him feel good (- which in a way probably also pleases his grandmother than he should feel that way.)

He already knows I approve of his choices of tattoo's.  He had told me his plan and then when he texted the photo I told him it was beautiful.  He is reserved and quiet and I know it is his way of being a testimony to his buddies and those who might ask.
