I must say it is getting rare that I meet anyone without a tat. Tattoos are in.

@Solus Christus Very accurate observation.

You can tell that the writer here in the quote sounds like a young woman talking:

..................................................

I’m pretty sure being heavily tattooed at this point is a job requirement. ..

Every single nurse I know w the exception of the older lady who precepted me (but she’s like 60 so she gets a pass ) has tattoos.

.................................................

So maybe you can imagine also that a Christian 18 year old might similarly say or think: "So I do want my tattoo to count as a witness tool.........", right?

Once age 18 comes round, it seems like the tel. no. or email address of the local tattoo parlor is reached for.

One thing few talk about is to keep tats vibrant in color and not faded, you have to go back and get them redone from time to time with fresh ink.

@Solus Christus Well, exactly.

Some ppl may argue along the lines of:

"Nikki's Bible verse tattoo is fading. This proves getting tattooed was not really worthwhile for her."

Rather, it more likely proves that Nikki may need to go back to her tattoo artist/parlor and have some more pigment rammed in to freshen her tattoo, right?

The problem is people don’t freshen. Tatoos are like hair, you gotta tend to them, maybe not as often, but still its a life commitment.

@Solus Christus Some ppl do struggle a little at first, as they rationalize the life commitment - like you say - of getting tattooed for the first time, in a particular design.

"I struggled with the idea of getting a tattoo. .. I think the pastor's wife has a faith tattoo.... quite a few in my church have faith based tattoos and my friend and I were talking about them....I've seen tattoos that have a lot of meaning like mine. I feel mine is special and thankful I got it. I haven't once felt guilty for getting it."

Heather A. said:

"I waited 5 years before getting it. .. Reno also has a lot of tattoo places. Carson City has a few. Most people travel to Reno or Las Vegas for it. .. I have 1 tattoo and I got it in Reno. .. I do have a cross tattoo. "

...........................

But then when they go ahead and walk into the tattoo parlor, they may emerge rather satisfied and joyful with a faith based design.

I talked to a young man whose arm was shot through with a Bible quote; he seemed pleased I had indicated that I appreciate the Bible ref.

Sometimes it's maybe the fear of the unknown that makes ppl hesitate before such a life commitment by way of a tattoo, right?

My ma is considering getting a dove tattoo for the Holy Spirit. But she is wrestling with the Leviticus verse, “You shall not make any cuts in your body for the dead, nor make any tattoo marks on yourselves: I am the LORD.” (Leviticus 19:28)

@Solus Christus So would this be a first time tattoo for your mother? (maybe she has followed with interest your own tattooing).

Some ppl might say that the context of the Leviticus verse is Old Testament Jews in the land under the law being warned against pagan necromancy associations. (Do preachers shave? - see the adjacent verse also - if they do shave they are maybe admitting they are NT Christians under the rule of the Gospel rather than OT Jews in the land under the law.)

PS: @Solus Christus Does your mother realize historically that in the 19th century it was actually regarded widely as a rather classy and womanly thing to do?

"Surprisingly, one of the major resurgences of interest in tattoos in Europe occurred among 19th century high society Victorian women (as well as men), after British explorers .. brought back the practice to Britain. .. grew during the 19th century, and even Winston Churchill’s mother had a tattoo .. on her wrist. Queen Victoria was also believed to have had a tattoo.. . From Victorian Europe...to America. In 1897, (art critic, Margot) Miffin says that an estimated 75% of American society women were tattooed.."
(Black Fire: Women, Tattoos, and the Transformative Power of Body Art )

(Not that I would say that someone ought to have it done; the tattoo parlor appointment needs to be entirely an individual's decision.)

@Solus Christus Really? so she might even get tattooed before you, then....

But then it's also undeniable that huge numbers of older women have them.

My dear Dad had two tattoos but that was from his navy days.
I have noticed however that lots of young girls have them and what is really noticeable is a huge amount are women say around their sixties .

So you can maybe see that your mom would already understand something of the motivation of huge numbers of mature women today in considering getting tattooed. (Does this surprise you about your mother?)

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
