@itty-bitty lamb My wife and I talked to a young lady with the whole of John 3.16 tattooed on her wrist area; it was her favorite Bible verse and mine also; my guess is that -like you - the idea appealed to her; but then unlike you she went into a tattoo parlor and had it done. I'm sure other conversations have arisen as a result of her willingness to have it done.

That's an interesting story.

So seeing as you know the person who did it for that reason, do you think it worked for her to have pierced her tongue with the motive of ceasing to gossip in mind?

The lady who served at my local Christian bookstore had a pierced tongue with jewelry in it.

Glad this thread interests you.

Mmm, no, can't say the idea has ever appealed to me to get a scripture tattooed on my body. Like i said, ...i have never felt the need to do this.

i do feel it helped her in her walk with God. She did a lot of praying over it before getting it done. She expressed to me afterwards that the physical reminder in her tongue helped her overcome the bad habits of gossiping and create new habits that were good. She kept the piercing for about four years before taking it out, saying that it was no longer needed because she wasn't struggling anymore with gossiping.

@itty-bitty lamb On the first point, I guess I was referring to the fact that you said you like to see faith based tattoos on other ppl. (All the young ppl with Bible verses tattooed with whom I have spoken seem to have received them as witness tools, anyway.)

Sounds like you may have known the lady beforehand when she prayed about having her tongue pierced. Anyway, you seem to agree with her that it proved to be a good thing for her to have done.

Yes i knew her before she got the piercing. At the time, i didn't know this had been on her heart. She just showed up one day with the pierced tongue. Both her and her husband got it done together, as a promise to God to change their manner of speech. In the end, they both said it helped them in their relationship with God.

@itty-bitty lamb Were you at first a bit surprised when she first showed with her pierced tongue? (like, 'Is that real?') ......then afterwards you thought it was a good idea.

Something may make sense, but it doesnt necessarily mean it is a good idea. It was obviously a good idea to them. To me, i would have personally taken a different route. She was in great pain, couldn't speak, and it became infected a few times. It didnt appear like it was a good idea to me, but in application to their faith, i guess it made sense. She was my friend and i supported her with this. It kept her mind on God. It was over twenty years ago, but i remember a minister of the church was appalled and dismayed. Some words were said. But everyone eventually found their peace in the end.

It seems to me you are pressing for my approval? Personally, in the knit and grit of the grind, i would loose sleep at night doing something like a body piercing or tattoo. The scripture about our bodies being a temple for God always comes to my mind..but i am no expert on scriptures. i'd rather err on this side of the fence, and i feel, in my measure of faith, that it is not for me. i also don't think it is a sin, so don't take me wrong here, please.

my strength does not excel in witnessing to people, anyways. i can see how a tattoo of a scripture can be used as a helpful tool for testifying and witnessing about God. All the more glory to Him

@itty-bitty lamb Thanks for those very thoughtful comments. (And actually all comments are welcomed, in favor or against.) It seemed that a thread and poll such as this would attract comment and this has been proven.

As regards tattoos and piercings, I thought this quote from Scarlett O. was quite thought-provoking also; she seems to go to the heart of the matter: how far?

............................

Scarlett O. said:

I am not a prude. I am not opposed to pierced ears or conservative make up or even (*gasp*) a small, inoffensive tatoo. ...I do have three earrings in each ear. .. So where is the line that crosses from self-expression to self-mutilation?
As for tatoos, I like them. I do not have one, but have always wanted one. But again, there is a difference in having a small tatoo or even two or three that the rest of us don't have to have a glaring look at all day and making a canvas out of your entire arms, back, face, chest, and legs. ..
So, again, where is the line drawn between self-expression and self-mutilation?

.........................

Of course some ppl do prefer to limit it to one or two piercings in each ear, and remain what they would see as thoroughly conservative (maybe this is how you would strongly think also?)

Thanks again for your reflectiveness.

@itty-bitty lamb If it was over 20 years ago, shows just how well established a custom it has become, right?

Like I said, the lady who served at my local Christian bookstore had a tongue piercing; she must have had her reasons, or maybe it was because she simply liked it.

Did you ever watch any of the ink shows? a lot of ppl do that don't actually intend to get any ink.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
