My Lord, and My God

Many years back, I have been asking our preachers about the true identity of our Lord Jesus Christ that I could clearly recognize God. I did this after reading John 8:19. I was surprised when I stated what I found and they scoffed at it. May I know what you think about it?

I used to read the Holy Bible casually like many people. From this, I learned great maxims and their moral lessons -- knowledge that helped shape my values in life, and my interaction with other people. That is how the Bible found its place in my little library. Occasionally, I also use some verses to defend my religious beliefs. A sample of this is the summary of all the commandments and words of God into a simple: "Love God and love my fellowmen."

The Bible as a casual reading material, however, provoked doubts in my mind. This is when I read what Christ told a Scribe (in Mark 12:28) who asked Him, "Which is the first (most important) commandment of all?" Jesus answered: "The first (most important) commandment is: Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord" (Mark 12:29). Then Jesus began enumerating "Love God and Love your neighbor..." (Mark 12:30-31).

I have not heard that first (most important) commandment being expounded before. Questions started bothering my mind about the "ONE LORD AND ONE GOD" whose recognition I now realized is a PREREQUISITE to loving Him. While many profess to believe in one God, religious sects teach different perceptions of Him. I was thinking, people unwittingly actually love a God with different identities - a strange God!

Then I read James 2:19 where believing in one God is not enough. Does that satisfy the prerequisite of loving Him? I was asking myself. Even the NAME of God varies among different people. In my case, I was taught that God has three divine persons, each person is God, but one person is not the other two persons. I was contented with this identification of God. More so, I had the comfort of being in the majority on this belief.

What more, I am familiar with the anecdote about St. Augustine who tried to figure out that "ONE LORD AND ONE GOD" as he walked by the seashore. He was rebuked by a child by showing the impossibility of transferring the waters of the sea to a small hole he was digging

I believe what you have heard is Right. I have heard the same, although I might not express it in exactly the same way, but I agree that His Name is The Word, and that we must feed and clothe the poor, it is our newness and life in Him now.

OUTSTANDING------BEAUTIFULLY PUT----christine--- :il: ----ya-know--like the preachers you "asked" for

instruction--teaching--learning on GODS---JESUS--identity----my wife--Patsy would tell me something she had discovered in GOD'S WORD & I, naturally,being the "priest in the home",would {SCOFF??} being the "leader"--more knowledgable one in GOD'S WORD-uhhhh, translate that{aaahem PUFFED--UP??--prideful?? stupid would fit quite well too} only to "discover" later, thru study myself would I "SEE" that Patsy had been right all along.... very "embarrassing" also try "humbling"!!!!!---But that was thirty years ago, & I have "learned" since then to be just a little-bit more "teachable" by "ANYONE" even a child, but especially sensitive to my wife's thoughts,ideas,questions, "instruction"....----haaaaaaaa--humor??---Just one of the sheep :baa: -that can be "led" to cool,clear,still waters...of life..... -----------good-night john-boy--where-ever-you are------

Wonderfully put. I truly appreciate you writing these things...it was a comfort to me. However, I feel there was inadequate explanation of Genesis, wherein God uses the pronouns "us" and so on. Might you be so kind to go more in depth in that for me?

Very Well percieved Christine. I have also battled the old threesome idea. And discovered as you did The One.

So eloquently put, need to print that off. I can't speak that well without getting excited and perhaps not explaining as well as you have.

Keep those ears open and hear the Holy Spirit speak.

HE -GOD-THE FATHER--was speaking TO JESUS-YESHUA-THE SON-{also GOD] AND GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT--THEY THREE-yet ONE -in purpose--one in thought-one in DEED{S}-----like the egg-theory----

an egg has three parts--the shell{GOD the HOLY-SPIRIT} the white of the egg {GOD-THE SON-}

the yolk-{GOD THE FATHER} the CENTER of GOD'S existance--the all {IN ALL] GOD the SON is the WORD--the creative force----GOD--THE HOLY-SPIRIT----the active-living-moving-calling-heralding of JESUS--the drawing force of GOD--reflecting back to JESUS-----hope i got that right---ahhhhhhh WeLL i tried------------GOD-BLESS----------------{Gary}---
