As a USA resident I cannot imagine living under billboards with such messaging. Can't even begin to comprehend how that would favorably influence anyone. But obvoiusly it must. Somehow the lyrics of a Paul Simon tune are coming rumbling into my mind. "A man walks down the street It's a street in a strange world Maybe it's the third world Maybe it's his first time around He doesn't speak the language He holds no currency He is a foreign man He is surrounded by the sound, "... I don't know how this prophecy will play out and it certainly hasn't yet. Isa. 24:4-13 (ESV) 4The earth mourns and withers; the world languishes and withers; the highest people of the earth languish. 5The earth lies defiled under its inhabitants; for they have transgressed the laws, violated the statutes, broken the everlasting covenant. 6Therefore a curse devours the earth, and its inhabitants suffer for their guilt; therefore the inhabitants of the earth are scorched, and few men are left. 7The wine mourns, the vine languishes, all the merry-hearted sigh. 8The mirth of the tambourines is stilled, the noise of the jubilant has ceased, the mirth of the lyre is stilled. 9No more do they drink wine with singing; strong drink is bitter to those who drink it. 10The wasted city is broken down; every house is shut up so that none can enter. 11There is an outcry in the streets for lack of wine; all joy has grown dark; the gladness of the earth is banished. 12Desolation is left in the city; the gates are battered into ruins. 13For thus it shall be in the midst of the earth among the nations, as when an olive tree is beaten, as at the gleaning when the grape harvest is done. Interesting passage that reflects a few other passages. In Revelation the Lord sends a scorching heat on men. It this passage referring to it or something else? Who? The whole earth Why? They transgressed the statutes in addition to the everlasting covenant. What is the everlasting covenant? One of the big theological questions is, are we as believers included in the group? Perhaps one of God's mercy even in the harshest of times and situations; as the master of the fields is to leave the corners for the gleaners perhaps so does God the master of all things and all matters. 'Course as I have loved to say when people get to worrying some and expressing a sense of impending loss; "It's all going to burn". And then there will be a new Heaven and a New Earth. Perhaps, but not to all. I have my framed copy of the Pensacola News front page within five feet of me right now; titled "War Ends Japs Surrender Accepted By Allied Heads." I grew up with it in the house, that and images of corsairs, my father having been a fighter pilot instructor during WWII and myself a war baby tossed around by Naval Aviation cadets as I wore my leather helmet and aviation goggles. Fast forward the generations, go to a military airshow today, look at who is there today, go see what some of our USA youth are into today in the CAP.
