Hi, For me it is reminder that there are as many tar baby's placed on (a) Pilgrim's pathway today as when the story was originally conceived. The causes, the stereo types, may  change a shade or two but the goal of the adversary and His minions is the same, the very same.

For me this story, a childhood favourite, has always had a two-part moral to it as follows:

# Don't be tricked into sticky situations

# If you do get tricked into sticky situations trick your way out.

Hi all, WIKI gives a decent history of the Disney use of the theme(s) for Songs of the South, as well as parallel stories very similar to  the tar baby story that are used in their own cultures. The entire movie  has never been re-released in the USA ( Reasons are suggested/given  in the WIKI gathering of information) due to negative affects feared over racial stereo types. Kinda a shame because , well it's just kind of a shame.

My own mind takes the little segment  of passing yet another  tar baby, placed along pilgrim's path  (Yes from the story Pilgrim's Path), with personal application for myself being to foresee the delay, the side track, the stumble block, that the tar baby is; and to avoid first the emotion that wells up to right a slight, a wrong, or a point of view that "needs correcting" (IMO) and instead stay moving on the path way, for the journey is long enough already. 

Not only is the journey long enough it has a purpose, it is not a wandering. The tar babies are the works of adversaries, minions of the greater adversary, playing tricks to get pilgrims ( Born again Christians) delayed, away from their first love even,  and into battling sticky stuff that is not a part of the mission assigned- that to run the race as though to win it, knowing that not all who run finish the race,  or finish it well.

Today,  in the USA especially,  there are almost more tar babies than pathway  to set them along. More efforts at "syncretism"- to dilute by blending that which is not compatible with God's stated will for his own  with that which is resulting in causes  of many kinds.

Right now the USA presidential political landscape is filled with tar babies, things having nothing to do with a pilgrim's mission are being sold as great temptations,  things that just must be part and parcel of God's will but are not. They are not of  the call to share of  and to live out the gospel message of Jesus.

The sermon that I just yesterday posted in videos  "Colossians" hits right at it all. It's personal application for me is- do not stop  do not back up to be self led  into a punching the tar baby-, not any of them. For there are oh so many being placed along every pilgrim's path today. Each tar baby is a delaying distraction that impeds the assignment  from God of going into all the world with the gospel of Jesus so that many may be found mature at his soon return.

 "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places."

 I am reminded this day of our mutual first love our Lord Jesus and for me at least to be back to basics, Love God -love one another.
