Communion-Favorite Verses

I like to have communion at home sometimes and enjoy looking for verses in the Bible to use for this.

My favorite one so far is Ecclesiastes 9:7,8

Go, eat your bread with joy,

And drink your wine with a merry heart;

For God has already accepted your works.

Let your garments always be white,

And let your head lack no oil.

Anyone else know any cool verses for communion?

John 6:47-48,51,53 NKJV

"Most assuridly I say unto you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life.

I Am the Bread of Life...I Am the Living Bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world. Most assuridly I say unto you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you."

1 Cor 10:1-33; 1 Cor 11:20-34

Hebrews 13:7 Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

Hebrews 13:9 Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.

Hebrews 13:10 We have an altar, whereof they have no right to eat which serve the tabernacle.

I believe communion has more to do with koinonia - fellowship than it has to do with eating or drinking.

Jesus portrayed his "servitude" toward His disciples by washing their feet. He broke bread and said this was His body; He drank wine and said this is my blood. It is the fellowshipping of the saints partaking of these things and not the things alone. If you read the above verses then you will have to conclude:

Mark 9:35 And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.

Mark 10:44-45 And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all. 45 For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

But I've heard stories of POWs partaking of communion with other believers on opposite sides of a wall and performed the ritual with rice and water. It is the rememberence of Christ and His testimony in what we rejoice.

Wow, Dad Ernie, as I was reading your post I thought about the washing of the feet.....wouldn't that be something to do in remembrance of Him!

Is communion something that you ever do alone or is it always in fellowship with other saints, commemorating Him?

as I was reading your post I thought about the washing of the feet.....wouldn't that be something to do in remembrance of Him!

There have been a few times when I have been led to "wash" my wife's and some friend's feet. It can be a humbling, but yet somehow comforting feeling when you let others know that you are there to "serve them".

The scriptures DO say that "when you come together", but sometimes, I think it is a good reminder for us to JUST have fellowship with the Lord and the "symbols" of bread and wine may be good for us PERSONALLY as rememberence of the price our Lord paid for us.

1 Corinthians 6:12 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.

If led by the Holy Spirit, I wouldn't hesitate a moment to go to my prayer closet and have COMMUNION with the Lord.
