TED: It may be that you would come to understand the Bible better if you would read the Bible itself, rather than books written about it.

Ecco,

Thanks for responding!

I appreciate your views very much. Mostly because they were my views as well, just a few short years ago. I have no pretense of superiority because I have accepted Christ and I remember well my conversations with Christians at the time. I did a little research on the various religions and felt like I was pretty well prepared for my talks with them. Looking at the Bible objectively, I had thought that I could wipe out their points, or, at least, hold my own in these matters. I used the old contradictions argument, the ridiculousness of a world flood, etc. Here's a few things I found out while doing this research:

1. Although there appear to be things that seem to contradict each other in the Bible, I feel like it was, and continues to be, my own failings of comprehension of the subject at hand, rather than God's.

2. As many supposed contradictions there may be, the number of things that do check out and line up perfectly far out number the things that seem not to.

3. Although I had thought I had a good understanding of the Bible before hand, it wasn't until ny acceptance of the work of Jesus did I truly begin to understand even the simplest of Scripture. That's why I usually will not post Scripture when dealing with people in these types of debates or discussions. If someone truly wants to know Jesus and seeks forgiveness for their sins, then I will use Scripture almost exclusively (along with testimony) and show them what God says straight from the source. Y'see, without the Holy Spirit, there is little true understanding of Scripture in the purest sense, so it almost makes no sense to use it when dealing with someone that has yet to open their heart to Jesus.

So, if being here is simply an excercise for your thought processes, then please, make yourself at home. I would much rather you hear about God in your excercises than anything else. If there is anything within the Bible that you are not familiar with, or need help in understanding, feel free to ask, and I will do my best to help.

Have a great day!

Then you do not believe the bible to be inerrant. So where do you draw the line as to what to accept and what to reject?

If there are different accounts of the resurrection, how can you know which is correct, or if either is correct?

Hello ecco,

Then you do not believe the bible to be inerrant. So where do you draw the line as to what to accept and what to reject?

I accept what the Bible says, although it doesn't always provide all of the answers. In fact, there are many things which it does not explain, but what it does say, I accept.

I do not reject anything the Bible says. Call me a thumper, but I believe it all.

There are times where things seem to be evidence against what it says, but personally, I think most of it is misunderstanding, a lack of thorough knowledge, incomplete data, or an intentional circumstance to create a falsification.

We see this in the scientific community, as well. There have been countless times where scientists have had to reevaluate what they have thought to be true because new evidence has come about, or different observations have been made. To their credit, most will realize and accept their failings and move on with a greater knowledge.

This constant learning process is going on with the Bible, as well. There are things in it which we certainly have no clear interpretation of, but most of these so called "contradictions" happen when someone puts forth their little idea of what it really means with little more to go on but what they feel about it.

Instead of simply admitting that they do not know of which they speak, they forge ahead with an incomplete knowledge. It's sad, but it happens every day.

God has let us know that not all will be revealed to us just yet (Deu 29:29), so we must be ready to trust him when we simply do not know of a certain thing. The trouble happens when we decide to make something up to cover our failings.

Anyway, I feel that we will learn more about it, but if not, then I am happy that He has preserved enough of His word to at least have the plan of Salvation easily digestible.

If there are different accounts of the resurrection, how can you know which is correct, or if either is correct?

Good question!

Personally, I feel that there are different accounts of the event because different people were describing the same event from different angles of time and perspective. I think they are all correct, but told from different, natural perspectives, so we have emphasis in different areas.

As an example, think of several witnesses of a single car accident. The people in the car will have a different account than one standing on the street, which may be a little different from the person driving behind the car involved. Each saw the same accident, but can only give account of what they actually saw. Now, add in a person that was not there close enough to see, but heard it, and then saw the results: his account might be a little different, too.

So, no. The Bible will not give you every answer to every question, nor will it describe, in detail, every force of nature. But, it does give us enough to understand God, and what His plan is for us- both in Heaven and on Earth.

Have a great night!

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
