So even for a godly cause shedding blood is not good. However, we live in a fallen world. And in a fallen world there is a time for war. In a fallen world we are called as Christians to hate evil. So despite all of the horrors of war and the dubious reasons we go to war, I am glad that a result of WWII was that the Nazi's had to stop cooking people in ovens. There is no peace with something like that. Sometimes good comes out of war. Sometimes war is necessary.

Also, as Christians, the New Testament calls us to a different kind of war. This is a war to win souls for Christ. This is a war against our own sinful natures, the world, Satan and the powers of evil. This war requires the full armor of God - Ephesians 6:10-18. This war should come before all others. :21:

Good post! :)

There is definitely Biblical justification for taking the lives of certain people under certain circumstances, but that is not to say that killing itself can ever be a "good" thing. It is just one of the unfortunate consequences of the fall. I guess that "murder" could be defined as taking another person's life without any of the justifications put forth in the Bible.

Hi all! I'm new here, but I had to post something. So, I thought I would bring up a topic that has been posed to me of late by a Christian Ukraine immigrant.

The Question is this: How can Christians in America support killing (war) when the Bible states that we are not to kill.

And for argument sake, here is the specific questions that he gave me to answer:

I guess you think we should have just sat by and let the people that killed 3000 Americans on 9/11 get away with it. We should do anything right? Also you have to understand if we fight them on their turf they are going to come over here. War is not pretty but sometimes it's necessary. There were times in the Old Testament that God told His people to go into a certain land and kill everyone there. I hope you don't think that our men and women that are now serving and those that are christians are doing something wrong, I hope too you don't question their faith. As I said sometimes war is necessary. I come from a military family. I'm proud of every one of them and proud of those that serve now. Just ask anyone here how I feel about our military.

In the NT, some soldiers approached John the Baptist and asked him what they should do in light of the careeer they were in.

And some soldiers were questioning him, saying, "And what about us, what shall we do?" And he said to them, "Do not take money from anyone by force, or accuse anyone falsely, and be content with your wages."

Luke 3:14 NASB

Notice that John did not instruct them to leave soldiering because it would require killing.

Thanks! I think this is the best responce so far. Simple, concise . . . what I need.

So as long as you can find a passage in the Bible that agree's with your views, even if an opposing passage disagree's with it, your view is never the less correct?

Groovy.

Yes sometimes war is necessary. Most of the country now agrees that Iraq was not a necessary war.

There is a difference between killing and murder. A soldier killing a soldier is not murder.

Sometimes the innocent are killed during a war and accidental death is different than a soldier purposefully murdering women and children and dashing babies against the rocks.

Yes and killing innocent people is just what Sadam did. He would come over here and do the same if he had the chance. Count on it. I for one feel safer now that Sadam is out of power.

Really?

I must have missed that one.

Can you post a link?

What would have happened if the United States had stayed out? Just over half of Americans (52 percent) think the world would be worse off and a 59 percent majority thinks Iraq would be worse off, if the U.S. military had not taken action.

Opinion Dynamics Corporation conducted the national telephone poll of 900 registered voters for FOX News on November 29-30.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
