Word Records

Long before we had Amy Grant or Rebecca St. James, we still had Word/Canaan Records. Way back in the 60's and 70's, they released a lot of wonderful Christian stuff by big secular stars such as Burl Ives, Jimmie Davis, "Tennessee" Ernie Ford, Jerry Clower and others. They also done great Southern Gospel albums from the likes of the Inspirations, the Dixie Echos, the Goodmans and a host of others. Now, it seems, they aren't interested in that back catalog of music and I'd like to find a way to get ahold of them and at least be one voice begging them to take a look at their back catalog of music for us more traditional fans instead of having to scour eBay for those LP's (and even 8-tracks!). If you've got an e-addy contact or even their physical address, I'd sure appreciate it and if you would like to see those old releases as well, e-mail them also! :t:

Gary and I always liked Elvis' gospel albums. We have a lot of those. We have Tex Ritter's "Peace in the Valley" and many of the others you mention. Sad to say, most of ours are old records and are not tapes. These are our favorites.

I think we have one of Burl Ives. Is that what you are wanting? I will have to see if we still have it. I really am not sure what you want. Or are you just wanting an address for Word/Canaan Records?

I'd definetely be interested in anything you've got, but I have intentions of writing or e-mailing Word Records to tell them that not all of us are into this hip-hop, etc. and we like the old-fashioned stuff! I do have one Burl Ives gospel LP on Word, though my understanding is that he made several for them-at the height of his career nonetheless!!! That's one thing that burns me up on modern country music-they never find time to do gospel. The old-timers always done some gospel-even Jimmie Rodgers cut a gospel number with Sara Carter harmonizing and Mother Maybelle playing guitar. BTW, before anyone thinks I'm an old fuddy-duddy, I'll be 30 in December-I just happen to appreciate good music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

let me know what performers you are interested in and you can e-me your addy and I can probably get you most anything you want...when it comes to old country...my Uncle is a "bluegrass"...and "Old country" singer...lets see some songs he does are:

theres alot more..but the point a I am trying to make is this...he has alot, of the old stuff on cd or tape (cassette).

I did find an old Burl Ives record. It is not a gospel record. Believe it or not he is telling Grimes (sp?) Fairy Tales. Sorry, I really thought I had one of his gospel records.
