The medical benefits are questionable, and I think there is a thread out there about them. The issue, as you put it, is off topic. My point, the miniscule medical benefits aside, is that drug laws don't make a whole lot of sense when you really think about them. So we agree, sort of, when you write: Ciggarets and Alcohol are legal yet both are FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR more dangerous than marijuana so why is marijuana illegal? As is the case so often when the government meddles in man's affairs, it is hypocritical.

However, your quotation of the Genesis account...I don't get. You're not saying we should be free to eat pot?

That scripture was also taken out of context and attempted to be used to justify drug use.

First off, the garden no longer exists and was destroyed when man was banished from it. After that, God cursed the earth so that it's animals and plants would be dangerous to man. Poppy, marijuana, (whatever plant is used for cocaine), roses with thorns, poison ivy, poison oak, etc.

Those are all part of the curse. Most high, (I am starting to think that name is not used to describe a moral state) using your argument, heroin and cocaine should be legalized also. See where this is going? "Marijuana grows naturally and has medical benefits", well so does poppy, but that is used in morphine (which is used under the close supervision of doctors and nurses). I am sure some person would even say that cocaine can be used as a stimulant (much like adrenalin) in the case of a pulmonary emergency.

These drugs are illegal because the consequences of their use are more negative than any medical benefit they may have. Such is the case with marijuana. Marijuana is an alternative treatment and there are other drugs nonasconsequential (ya'll like that word?) as marijuana that can be used for treatment.

Forgive me my writing mistakes, I hope you will understand me.

I am from Amsterdam, the Netherlands and we have allowed pot in very small amounts already for quite a while. Not legalized, but allowed for personal use only.

The results are that the users who want to use do not have to deal with criminals anymore

They get the "good" stuff (whatever that may be ) and because of that less risks

They pay sales taxes for it, in Netherlands almost 19%!!!

The smal criminality (pickpocking, extreme shoplifting, breaking open cars, steeling bykes etc) is gone down tremendesly.

There is not an increase of users.

We did NOT allow any hard drugs as coke, heroine, LSD, Ecstase, GHB etc.

A lot of people I meet think Holland is "paradise" for drugs, but that is not true, they are ILLEGAL

If the medical benefits are so miniscule then why are pharma companies working on synthetic THC? The government is lying to you about the benefits of marijuana. The criminalization of marijuana is a farce. So who is perpetrating the lies and misinformation and why?

The alcohol and tobacco industry don't want to share their drug profits.

The DEA is a government bureaucracy which gets a LOT of money and pot is an easy bust which makes their statistics look good. Take marijuana busts out of their stats and they look pretty ineffective.

Drug companies want to make money off a synthetic form of THC and other drugs that marijuana replaces.

The timber and cotton industry doesn't want you to know that marijuana can almost put them out of business with a more efficient renewable crop.

The oil industry doesn't want you to know that oil and fuel can be made fron marijuana.

Marnie, pot can be eaten to great effect and a lot of cancer patients (especially lung cancer patients) eat it instead of smoking it.

I happen to know so much about this because I did research when my aunt got cancer many years ago.

Well, dang, if Most High (no pun intended!) and I actually agree on something for a change.

I did not know one could eat pot. What a fascinating notion!

I only question the benefits of medical pot because of things I have read, and what my doctors have told me as a treatment for my chronic pain(s). Now, I take what the medical profession has to say with a grain of salt, mind you. But then I am also highly skeptical of just why drug companies are interested in synthetic THC. Perhaps they see a ready market, especially in California. lol, just kidding.

I hope they NEVER legalize it!

I've had too many un-Christian experiences, and seen TOO MANY people destroyed by this drug, including my brother, who has now become a paranoid schizophrenic as a result of using this substance in a 'harmless' way.

God save us from marijuana!
