The way I read Genesis, it appears that she was created on the same day as Adam.

Do I have this right?

Gen 1---

26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."

27 So God created man in his own image,

in the image of God he created him;

male and female he created them.

28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground."

29 Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground

You have to start at verse one in chapter 2. It says that the heavens and the earth and all the host of them were finished and that God rested on the 7th day and blessed the 7th day.

then verse 4 in chapter 2 says=

This is the "History"of the heavens and the earth when they were created ect....

Chapter 2 is just going over all that God had done in the first 6 days of creation.

Ok, so far I can agree with both of you.

Next question - look at Gen 2---

19 Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the field.

Not sure I follow that. So Adam did NOT name any sea creatures, insects, rodents ? I have seen it interpreted that "Adam named all the creatures, great and small, of the land, sea and air." But Genesis doesnt' say that, it picks out livestock, birds and large animals. RIGHT? Or am I reading this wrong?

It doesn't need to have happened all on the same day.

Actually, how about this:

Day 1: God brought all of the animals before Adam and he began to name them.

Day 2: God said that it was not good for man to be alone, and so caused Adam to fall into a deep sleep. He then built Eve from Adam's rib.

Day 3: Eve was presented to Adam, who declared, "This now is bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh."

We all know that Adam is a picture or "type" of Christ: Jesus was put to death (sleep) on the cross. A soldier pierced His side after His death, and from His side flowed blood and water; the blood being the means of redemption and the water being the means of regeneration for the believer. On the third day Christ was resurrected, and with Him also, all those redeemed by His blood and regenerated with His life. Today the church, the Bride of Christ, is being built up as a household, a priesthood, and a holy city (The New Jerusalem), which Christ Himself will marry and have as His wife in eternity future.

27 So God created man in his own image,

in the image of God he created him;

male and female he created them.

30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food." And it was so.

31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

Gen 2---

18 The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him."

19 Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the field.

But for Adam [g] no suitable helper was found. 21 So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs [h] and closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

23 The man said,

"This is now bone of my bones

and flesh of my flesh;

she shall be called 'woman, [j] '

for she was taken out of man."

Was she created on the sixth day as Adam was? Or later? And when did Adam name the animals?

I always thought this was all on the same day.

It was all on the same day. On the seventh day God rested and then that was the end of the week of creation. Gen 2 is a repeat of some things in Gen 1.

So what Genesis says doesn't matter? What do you mean?

I think some have missed this post. I am OK on my original post - but now my question is the one quoted right here.

Did Adam name ALL creatures or just the few outlined above? Whatdoyouallthink?

I think you all were posting at the same time and thus they didn't see your second post until after they posted their answers. It happens all the time to me.

It might possibly be a euphamistic phrase to mean all creatures great and small, but I don't think that it's proper to limit doctrine TO that because it would be adding to the text if we said that it was a surety. I don't speak hebrew so I don't know if that's one of those phrases which mean something else or not.

But see, that's the problem here. Is Genesis to be taken LITERALLY, and word-for-word - OR - do we read it quick and get the general meaning?

If I read it quickly and get the "general meaning" this is what Genesis (the first two chapters, anyway) tells me:

1) God created ALL of the universe and ALL life in it.

2) Adam had a wonderful, close relationship with God - then blew it.

Nothing to argue with there!

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
