Attributes: Who Is He

He possesses omniscience (1 Cor. 2:11,12)

He possess omnipresence (Ps. 139:7)

He possesses omnipotence (Job 33:4)

He is Truth (1 John 5:6)

He gives life (Luke 11:13)

He possesses creative wisdom (Is. 40:13)

He possesses all the attributes of deity: He is God (Acts 5:3,4)

Record: What He Has Done

In the Old Testament

He was active at creation (Gen. 1:2)

He was the bestower of supernatural giftedness (Gen. 31:38)

He was the giver of creativity (Ex. 31:2-5)

He was the source of power (Judg. 3:9, 10)

He inspired prophecy (1 Sam. 19:20, 23)

He was the mediator of God's message (Mic. 3:8)

In the New Testament:

He was part of the Incarnation (Luke 1:35)

He declared the truth about Christ (John 16:13,14)

He endowed believers with power for witnessing (Acts 1:8)

He poured out God's love (Rom. 5:5)

He interceded (Rom. 8:26)

He was the inspiration for the writing of the Holy Scripture (2 Tim.3:16, 2 Pet. 1:21)

He distributed giftedness for ministry (1 Cor.12:4-11)

He empowered believers with characteristics for godly living (Gal. 5:22, 23)

He Strengthened believers within (Eph. 3:16)

Work: What He Will Do

He will guide the believer (Acts 8:29 ; Rom. 8:14)

He will give assurance of salvation (Rom. 8:14-17)

He will be the believer's teacher (1 John 2:27)

He will intercede (Rom. 8:26)

He will comfort (John 14:16)

He will sanctify (2 Thes. 2:13)

He will accomplish regeneration (John 3:6)

He will make you aware of sin (John 16:8)

He will convince you of the truth of the gospel (John 16:8, 13, 14)

He will empower you to witness (Acts 1:8;4:31)

He will destroy the power of sin in your life (Rom. 8:2-6)

He will lead and even control your life (Rom. 8:14;Gal. 5:16, 25)

He will distribuite gifts to be used in the kingdom (1 Cor. 12:14-11

The Holy Spirit was promised as a gift to believers, part of His ministry is to seal believers at the moment they place saving faith in Christ. The term "seal" includes the four truths: He is a provision of security, a mark of ownership, a and a sign of approval. Indeed, the Holy Spirit's presence in the believers' life is the final evidence, both to themselves and to others, of the truth of what she/he has believed. Further, He us the down payment, providing both a foretaste of the believer's spiritual inheritance and a legal claim to the fullness of that inheritance in the future.

Is this not evidence for you believers???? I say AMEN!!!

For those of you who walk in darkness, this evidence cannot be argued with. As believers, we walk in the light and have experienced each of these things as evidence of a personal relationship with the Lord in which the Holy Spirit dwells within us.

:):noidea:

Praise the Lord.

The think that strikes me is that Jesus didn't do anything until he was baptized in the Holy Spirit! That is the same Spirit in believer!

But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.--Romans 8:11

cjrose,

Great write!

Just a thought from me to add the Greek parts of speech for the Holy Spirit in regard to the prepositional differences.

Holy Spirit is (WITH US) to call us to God, guide and comfort us etc. John 14.

Holy Spirit is (UPON US) to empower or give us the authority to preach, minister, speak in tongues etc.

At Jesus

When I posted this about the Holy Spirit I did so compelled by the Holy Spirit and since I see it still on the boards, I again feel compelled to express that today as most everyday, I am not me but I am the Spirit. If you really meditate on it, the Spirit is what controls us as we submit to God's will. Being obedient brings the reward in many ways and one way is a stronger more aware sense of the Spirit and how enormous He is as He lives within us and as we allow Him to work through us.

God is so Awesome that He can be everywhere all the time with everyone and know us before we were born and the most intimate and heartfelt is that we have been chosen to come to believe. How inspiring is that? How supernatural and all empowering is that thought when you truly stop everything you are doing in your busy daily lives to meditate on being chosen and the divinity of how far and wide God's love is.

Praise the Lord.

I'm curious about this idea of the Holy Spirit. I was under the impression that there was only one god in Christianity.

How does this holy spirit do deeds separate from this God or this God do anything separate from the holy spirit?

If the holy spirit is really only part of God, couldn't you say that anything God ever did was something that the holy spirit also did?
