A two part question concerning the War on Terror

There was some discussion a couple years ago the Patriot Act was created before Sep. 01. It was passed in a very timely manner on Sep. 01. A war was needed to pass it.

The PATRIOT act was signed into law on 26 October 2001, just six weeks after "9.11". It was "renewed" (again without public debate, which is the least that should have been done for such a draconian piece of legislation) on 2 March 2006 - though not signed into law until 9 March 2006.

The PATRIOT act was originally written well before "9.11" in 2001 and some of the more controversial provisions of USA PATRIOT act were largely inspired by the RICO act, which restricted due process for individuals involved in organized crime, racketeering, and drug trafficking. The USA PATRIOT act essentially extended the qualifications to those involved in terrorism. Under "normal circumstances" the American people would never have accepted such drastic measures, so "the war on terror" and an "atmosphere of fear" had to be created.

Within hours of the twin towers collapse one of our regular customers at the shop I worked in at the time said "now just watch politicians throughout the world pass legislation that they have always wanted to pass, but this time people will be crying out for it". Right then I began taking notice of what laws were passed - and their history - throughout the world, and sure enough ...........

This fact in itself should be enough to make people "smell a rat" and "start digging and find a find the rotten source of the smell" (colourful phase if I do say so myself).

Not a good time in history to be a Christian. Makes it more interesting however.
