He lingered for a couple months after that but he was in and out of reality. On Christmas, my grampa spoke to each of us individually, telling us words of wisdom. I kept my word to him as I promised to not let him die alone. I was there 24/7 for him and held his hand as he passed. Well, this Christmas is getting more and more difficult for us. I am getting more depressed, the closer it gets to Christmas. Grampa was a true leader in our family. If grampa said NO, it was a crime to disobey him. He always welcomed me with his arms reaching to hug and saying "There's MY girl". It is just bringing back bad hospital memories for me. It is hard to look at the bright side. People say remember the good times and celebrate that you will see him again in heaven but the words just hit deaf ears. I miss my grampa sooo much. I picture him in the hospital bed saying goodbye to everyone. I see the broken hearts of all who loved him. I'm rambling, I'm sorry. I just... nevermind. Holidays are tough. The Lord meant for us to carry each other through pain. Just let yourself cry, let the grief come, pour it out before the Lord. I've found my best times of worship to be when I was in the greatest pain yet worshiped through it. The worship brought healing, too. Prayers for you to feel yourself surrounded by the Lord's presence.

Each of you could get a copy made of a favorite photo of grampa, or write a brief summary of a favorite memory, then cut out those cute little 'Christmas trees' of green construction paper, glue the photo or whatever memory on it, maybe even highlight it with some glitter or white yarn for snow, put a loop of string through the top of the 'Christmas tree ornament' and decorate the tree with those. That would make a nice tribute, and make for a very nice, and sentimental holiday, I'll bet!
