"Creatures are not born with desires unless satisfaction for these desires exists. A baby feels hunger; well, there is such a thing as food. A dolphin wants to swim; well, there is such a thing as water. Men feel sexual desire; well, there is such a thing as sex. If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world" (Mere Christianity, Bk. III, chap. 10, "Hope").

I can't say it any better! A.P.

Treat others as you would want to be treated: imo, don't show them any disrespect, in whatever form that amounts to for them respectively.

I talked to my ethics professor about this and raised my concerns. He told me he was only looking at the text book objectively and wanted to gauge our reaction to what the author said.

He said he agrees with me and has contacted the author about this before. He says he is quite disappointed at her inability to paint Christianity in anything besides a negative light. I also found out that he went to seminary before becoming an ethics professor.

One last note. It seems that I have to repeat this at least once in every one of my threads.

Fresnojo, I am not an atheist. I am a Christian, I follow the teachings of Jesus and apply them to my life, I go to church, I go to bible study, and I pray. Philosophical perspective is a very good thing to have under your belt, so is a good foundation in ethics, logic, and reason. You may not feel the need to use logic, but other people do. So a good foundation here will help communication skills.

Also I appreciate your advice though I believe your preaching to the choir. I imagine that you made the assumption that I was an atheist by the nature of the questions asked. I suggest that you read the topic, and the replies more closely. You may gather a new perspective as opposed to skimming over the "nonsense of an atheist."

I apologize for the triple post. My comp was not loading the site properly so I hit the add reply button again, and again. Feel free to delete them

Philosophical Perspective versus The Gospel of Jesus Christ!

Dear Brother Observer.

Sorry!

I have been there Dear Brother and it ain't pretty!

Many of your posts at Worthy appear to me to be the thoughts of a College student who is totally immersed in the study of some subject he loves!

"And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit."

"For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow." (Ecclesiastes 1:17-18)

The thoughts of a College student who applies his studies to every thought and action he can.

"Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;" (2 Corinthians 10:5)

Although an excellent way to a sold understanding of the doctrines of men and of demons.....

and although a sure-fire way to an A+.....

and although great ground work is laid toward a possible PhD.....

This practice Is Not The Way To Jesus Christ!

"But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God."

"Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men." (1 Corinthians 24:25)

Often such a student will even attempt to push away any old brother who sees the death trap he is stepping into,

A brother who prays that the student does not let his pride in his new found "knowledge" steal his heart from Jesus!

"But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman's hand." (Ezekiel 33:6)

"Therefore let no man glory in men. For all things are yours;" (1 Corinthians 3:21)

"That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord." (2 Corinthians 1:31)

Things they (almost) never teach you at University.....

The best foundation for good communication skills is to have something good to communicate.

"And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people."

"For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord." (Luke 2:10-11)

"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" (Romans 3:23)

"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." (Romans 6:23)

"Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." (John 3:3)

"And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:"

"That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life."

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:14-16)

"And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live." (Deuteronomy 8:3)

Croak like a frog and look like a toad, you can still communicate.....

"For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified." (1 Corinthians 2:2)

Will you be respected and admired by students and faculty alike?

No!

"If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you." (John 15:18)

Will you have The Way, The Truth and The Life to offer?

Yes!

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." (John 14:6)

Blanket statements like the one you just made dont even surround what Christianity really is. Christianity is an idea of self discipline and an encouragement to better the lives of those around you. afterlife is a sub thought, at least to me it is

Brother Observer, I acknowledge you were in conversation with a smart young man who is trying his dead level best to stay spiritually dead.

Posts like this one are a call for help to most all Christians at Worthy and maybe they are the reason you're asked if you know Christ so many times?

Christianity is.....

"..... Jesus Christ, and him crucified." (1 Corinthians 2:2)

Christianity is.....

"For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's." (Romans 14:8)

Christianity is.....

"And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war."

"His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself." (Revelation 19:11-12)

Christianity is.....

"And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God."

"And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS." (Revelation 19:15-16)

Christianity is.....

"And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God."

"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away." (Revelation 21:3-4)

Christianity is.....

"Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;"

"That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me."

"And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:"

"I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me." (John 17:20-23)

Christianity is.....

Jesus! Jesus! Jesus!

Accept no substitute!

Love, Joe

Fresno, I appriciate the response you gave. It was very meaningful and insiteful. To the last question you asked no. Observer of dreams is the name I gave to myself because I really do observe my dreams, as well as the dreams of others and interperate them to the best of my ability.

I have emersed myself in my school work this is true, but on the list of priorities God is still number one. A lot of times I talk the way I do on here at worthy because I am trying to get through to atheists. If my attempts fail and it is quite evident that the atheist is stone cold attached to his beliefs, or non-beliefs I will dust my feet off. When I talk to another spiritual person about spiritual things my aim is to learn, and I learn best by providing oposition and adopting their reasoning of why the opposition is incorrect. My faith grows with time, and lessons are learned.

Another reason taking an oposing view works for me is that when an atheist uses his opposing veiwpoint "example would be that the golden rule is flawed" I can take these arguments and apply them to one who uses the flawed rule argument as a justification of his atheism.

Now if the atheist presents new arguments against God, I will keep presenting arguements for God, but usually when the convorsation gets to the bottom whoever I was talking to takes the position of "Your wrong because I am right" And though he is entitled to his beliefs (Or God would not have given us that entitlement) He is basically refusing to acknowledge that there might be other ways to interperate the world other than he has.

a couple notes; "he" can be a boy or a girl, I did not want to write he/she very time.

My ethics professor introduced an argument that the golden rule is flawed. His reasoning is that quote, "Others don't always want to be treated as you want to be treated."

The question is therefore how can one live their life by the golden rule if the golden rule cannot always apply? I have already refuted this in my head but I want to see if someone else can reach the same, or a similar conclusion. :whistling:

Everyone is born with a NEED to love and be loved. To please and be pleased. Society since the days of old have twisted this NEED in us to the point it reeks of selfishness, but LOVE has never been about selfishness. It's actually selflessness and TRUE LOVE is something you WANT to give..regardless of terms and conditions... :whistling:

Lets look at it this way.

If you are following what Jesus said then you most likley are a christian or a good person. (ASSUMPTION)

Ok so then sure their are people that don't want to be treated the way i want to be treated. Everyone is different and all want to be treated differently. What jesus was getting at was how you love someone is important. You need to show them love that you would want to be shown. That love is in everything the way you talk act respond etc. But it is not like you are going to treat them exactly the same as you want to be treated. IE I like chocolate so i iwll buy them chocolate. It is more like When people give me chiocolate i like that and feel love. What would this person want me to do to make them feel loved as well?

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
