According to Leviticus, what are some other things that we should not do? What about shaving the beard or cutting hair? Clothing woven of two kinds of material, linen and wool. How far do we go? Leviticus is OT, we are not under the Law anymore, we are under Grace.

Let's take that verse in context. . .

Leviticus 19:19 " 'Keep my decrees.

" 'Do not mate different kinds of animals.

" 'Do not plant your field with two kinds of seed.

" 'Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material.

Leviticus 19:26-28 " 'Do not eat any meat with the blood still in it.

" 'Do not practice divination or sorcery.

27 " 'Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard.

28 " 'Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD.

Leviticus 19:32 " 'Rise in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly and revere your God. I am the LORD.

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

I do not have a tattoo, I have thought of getting one, but I am a-feared of needles!

Ok, so I am not looking for whether you feel having a tattoo placed permanently upon your body is right or wrong.

Thanks Giaour.

I will retaliate with Galations 6:17 "Finally, let no one cause me trouble, for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus."

And also, to abbershay, I do not plan to go to the local prison yard to be tattooed. I have researched the options and plan to go to a highly respectable place...some place that is *gasp* clean.

But anways, once again, as Giaour has pointed out numerous times, I am not looking for your OPINION on whether you think it is right or wrong to be tattooed. I have already made that decision myself. I am just curious as to how many people on Worthy will admit to having one themselves.

Much appreciated. :)

LOL...now that's funny! I am actually more afraid of getting my finger pricked with a needle than I am of getting a tattoo. You are exactly right about Leviticus.

Christian teaching in my country does not allow Christians to have tatoos, cuz it ruins our body. Esp. when you're already a Christian and getting one.. it's totally not allowed. It's different when you were a non believer when you got it. But I wouldn't ruin my skin by getting a tatoo.. (and this is my personal opinion only)

Youre welcome.

It's amazing how so many people ignore the requests of the original poster.

Jump at any chance for condemnation.

My tattoo means a lot to me.

A reminder of once I was lost but now I'm found.

Praise God.

Leviticus 19:28

"Do not cut your bodies for the dead, and do not mark your skin with tattoos. I am the Lord."

Come now. You can't not expect to receive God's Word on the matter before you do anything.

That is taken out of context... the whole idea is about mourning the dead... The difference between that and getting a tattoo of a cross is substantial.

I wanted a tattoo for a while and never got one, I'm kind of glad I didn't. Now that I'm older, I just see it as unnecessary...though there are times where I still think it would be neat to have one. :)

Often times Christians will get tattoos for shock value - "I broke a Christian social trend!" That just shows immaturity, and I wouldn't recommend permanently marking on your body to make a statement against the establishment. At the same time, if you just want to get one because you think they look cool, so long as it's appropriate, I say go for it. I've helped a few friends who wanted Greek tattoos, so I would write it down or translate a passage for them into Greek. Just never got around to doing it on myself.

Yeah, if they can't even read the topic correctly, what makes them think we'll trust they've read the Scriptures correctly either? :)

Scripture cannot be used (properly) to condemn tattoos. But, of course, using Scripture accurately would require more time and effort...oh..and grace. All of which people seem to be short on around here these days. :)

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
