A spiritual language is something I've prayed for in the past but never experienced. Anyone care to describe what it was like when you first spoke in tongues?

Well, I cried a lot because I had never experienced something like that before. Several of my elders were around me praying for me and it came on slowly. When it finally came though, it would not stop. I spent an hour crying and pouring.

Everyone's experience is different though.

I believe that tongues is a language God gave to his people so that you could have a private prayer with God. It will come when you need it though.

God Bless!

Ive heard many disturbing things throught this thread but let me start with the so called "prayer language". There is nowhere in the bible where Paul distinguishes between two different types of tongues. If you believe so, please show me. In every occurence where we see tongues it was in another language not known by the speaker. Not some kind of prayer language. Paul never says, this type needs to be translated but this type is just for you. no. When he spoke it was always as if it was one type. Please take this into consideration. Also, be very careful when listening to your feelings and emotions. There is a verse which I will find if need be, which states that the heart can be wicked and will decieve you. So we need to be careful. Take care. Your brother in Christ, matthew

Hi Matthew and all,

Talking about the gift of tongues will disturb you if you are being taught something that is not in keeping with the Word of God. Read 1 Corinthians 12 and especially verses 4-12 which say this:

" 4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. 8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;

10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: 11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will."

Notice that Paul speaks of divers tongues, and later again, tongues plural. The important thing is that God distributes the gifts "severally" as He will, i.e. generously and in multiples if He desires.

Try not to be apprehensive about something which is simply not your current experience. All this can change when you open your heart to let God do with you what He wants to do. He is making us into spiritual people who can through faith do spiritual things, not religious people who have a form of godliness but deny the power.

And hi Ian, god bless you for that question!

What happened to me was that some sisters laid hands on me for the baptism with the Holy Ghost, not knowing that I had already received. However, I was wanting the gift of tongues, and God spoke through someone saying, I have already given you that gift, it is in your heart and in your mouth. I went home and received by faith what was promised me, alone in my room, slowly at first but gathering in strength.

Since then I have found that speaking in tongues builds me in faith (the word says it edifies us) and this we all need. I do not believe that Paul was scolding and saying that we are puffing ourselves up by doing it, but that the practice of speaking in tongues helps us to be built up in the inner man, the spiritual part of us that God wants to grow.

Also I have prayed in tongues without any understanding of what I was saying, but a knowing in my spirit that it was accomplished. Some things God keeps private.

Trust Him!

EphesiansGal, you are the best! :whistling: I couldn't have siad it better!

First of all diverse kinds of tongues just means diverse kinds of languages which could be french, aramaic, latin, etc. That doesnt prove your point at all. And I have already opened my heart to our Lord. You and no one else here can say that I havent. Everyday I pray that he will do whatever is his will in my life so if he wanted to he could give me tongues or prophecy or whatever but he hasnt and I dont believe he will. Also, corinthians is clear that most people in biblical times would only recieve one maybe two gifts. And when you take a look of how these gifts were used in biblical times and how they were used today then either one of two things has happened. Either the gifts have been significantly toned down, or they are truly no longer here. You guys do realize that the gifts people claim to have today are nothing like they were in biblical times and they are not even used correctly according to the rules written by Paul 1Cor 14:26-40. Now, when a parent sees that his kid is smacking his younger sister with the toy he just got do you believe that he allows him to have it any longer? But again, I guess the gifts have changed because no one is using them in the same way. Prophecy was never for personal gain but for proving that the God of Israel is the one true God. Thats what everything was for. All the gifts were for proving his words and his identity. So theres really no more need for them. Everythings been proven. We know that the new testament is just as much the inspired words of God as the old. Also, tell me this. Did you recieve a gift on your own withought even speaking to or learning from people who claimed to have the gifts? Were you around or attending a "gifty" type of church? I dont understand why you guys believe everyone who claims to prophecy when we know there will be false prophets and there has been many recently. Read 2Peter 2:1-2. It says that these false prophets will secrectly bring in destructive heresies so they may seem like great people of God. Just remember to not follow what your heart feels but what the Holy Spirit tells you. The bible says to try the spirits meaning test them. God wants us to test these things to make sure they are of him or not. Listen, Ive been studying and researching this subject specifically for quite some time and I've found that there is much more evidence that the gifts are not here than that they are here. And believe me, Im very open to what others say. I only want to find the truth but I've asked God to reveal it to me and he has withought a doubt. Remember, that when Paul speaks of the gifts and Corinthians, his main message was to explain that the gifts are not very important for they would soon be done away with. Whats important is love, God's love and love between us brothers and sisters. What is our main objective now that we are saved? To save as many other people as possible, right? Not to supposedly go around speaking in tongues or using prophecy. We need to be witnessing. If the gifts were here then how come they only seem to be used within these types of churches and not out in the streets to witness? That bothers me. How come we dont see more christians going up to foreigners and preaching to them in their own language. That would bring people to Christ but it isnt happening. Lets concentrate on bringing others into the kingdom of God! Your brother in Christ, matthew

Im sorry but it would be nicer if you could come up with a better argument to what we are discussing. I wrote something I put some time into but I guess it was in vain because your only reply consists of 4 words. So please, if you dont have anything good or helpful to say then please remain silent so others can discuss things like adults. Im not trying to be rude. Im just frustrated with this type of response. Do you control the power of God? Read Acts and youll see that pretty much everyone who had recieved the gifts didnt even know what they were yet they recieved them. When I became a believer in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour I had no idea what the gifts were and I did not recieve them. hmm. So, in order for us to have a orderly and intelligent conversation please dont make remarks such as this. I'm not insulting your intelligence. I just dont understand why you are so put off by me. My intentions on worthyboards are good. I am here to learn as well as teach if the Lord sees fit. I pray that we all will learn the truth and that we will take that truth and teach it to the world as we have been called to do. Im sorry if I've offended you in any way. the interesting thing about tongues is that I wonder if the person who does it know they may not be saved.

think about it, they are channeling demons.

if they are able to channel demons then obviously God does not consider them as His own.

who's to say? only God knows. ... 3xR0c|<stAr

All your words came down to three: "I don't believe..." Until you believe that the Holy Spirit can do as He says, then you will not be on any receiving end from Him concerning that particular gift.

There is no need for you to be insulted by my response. I am not put off by you. I spoke the truth in as few words as possible, as I usually do here. Many words tend to drown out the truth sometimes. You will get to know this, I am sure.

There is no offense in me in my answer. It was far more helpful than you may think. I think that maybe you see the truth in my succinct answer and it has hit home.... maybe?

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
