They are only fictional. Can anyone enlighten me? I believe that as long as you know the difference between reality and fantasy, these are not harmful. As far as children go: It's a matter of judgement(ie:violence, sexuality, moral teachings etc.) It's harmful to tell a child that fairies are real or Santa is real because then you are teaching your child that there are acceptions to lying, but letting them watch what you've told them is fictional is fine, imo. What about Piers Anthony, who wrote the Xanth series, that deals with an entire WORLD that is nothing but magic? Is HE evil? How about Steven Brust, who wrote an entire sci fi series about sorcery and witchcraft, and the ways to practice both? Is HE evil as well? If you're going to tar one fiction writer, by God, get out the tar barrel and tar ALL OF 'EM. How about the writers of the Star Trek series genre---all of the books? Come on, get real here. It's ALL FICTION. NONE OF IT IS REAL. You might as well tar Zane Grey too, and Louis LaMoure as well...yep, I'm throwing in the western writers, too, oh, and let's go after the HARLEQUIN NOVELS TOO....they promote pornography.... This is getting silly. The fact of the matter is, if you take ANY BOOK and believe that it's real, it's GOING TO BE REAL TO YOU. Like I said in a previous post, there's a lot of people out there who think the BIBLE is great fiction. We who are Christians know better. Tar one, tar 'em all, I say....get out the rakes and the pitchforks and go after ALL the ogres. Anita This is why the world makes caricatures of Christians as up-tight teetotalers, book-burning old snobs, who spend time chasing down windmills to fight or looking for demons where they don't exist. I was asking because my children like Yu-gi-oh and Harry Potter but I find myself saying if I'm visiting a Christian or vice versa to keep them hidden I would suggest watching these programs/movies with your kids and afterwards ask them what they thought of it. use this as a means to make sure the devil don't play around in their minds, leading them astray. We don't always know the intensions of the people who write these stories. But as we know by now, our battle isn't against flesh, but against principalities and high powers... (I think the verse I'm looking for here is found in either Ephesians or Galatians.) Just a suggestion...

I wouldn't want my son to read it. What do you let your son read? Just curious, not meaning to be argumentative... What is acceptable until he reaches the age of accountablilty. He has not reached a point where he can determine good from bad on his own. He maintains straight A's through public school but its mainly learning materials. He has fun and tries hard. The material at school theres not much to do. Anything I discern as negative is out. These books have no positive or productive resource in them. They tend to lean towards evil which is non productive to me. This is just a personal preference. I judge no one.

I came upon a book at the local library one day that promoted white magic. The first thing I thought of when I saw it was the good witch in Oz. I browsed through the book to the part were it said you had to be a Christian to practice white magic. I immediately put the book down and decided this was too tough for me. I wound up hugging trees for a little while and when I finally hit rock bottom, I gave my life to Jesus. I was one of the fortunate ones who didn't get caught up in the magic propoganda. Praise God. Guest Blood-Washed
What would Jesus do??? Stop compromising with the devil and ask yourselves if Jesus would sit and watch programs or read books that contains witchcraft, "good/white" magic, calling on powers and names other than the Name of Jesus Christ, summoning powers other than the power of the Most High God..... My thoughts anyway.
