As far as the east is from the west

This was something I always wondered about, and after reading another thread, I figured I'd ask about it. The Word says that if we confess our sins, He will remember them no more, or cast them as far as the east is from the west, etc. But it also says that we will stand before the Judgement Seat and give an account of our lives. Can someone reconcile these two things for me? It seems a contradiction. (I know the Word doesn't contradict itself, however at face value this seems so here.)Thanks.

One argument is that "East from West" is an idiom to say He won't hold our sins against us anymore.

What judgment seat are you talking about? There is one in Revelation, but I believe that is for non-believers.

the judgement is for rewards. (1 Cor. 3:14)

Just so: there is the Judgment of Unbelievers, when those whose names are not found in the Lamb's Book of Life will be judged by their works and found wanting because even ONE sin is sufficient to condemn a man; and then there is the Judgment of Believers' Works (those who are made perfect and spotless in Christ) where those works that have been done in the Spirit will be rewarded and those that have been done in the flesh will be burned up.

2Co 5:10 For all of us must appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what he deserves for what he has done in his body, whether good or worthless.

Now if we are to recieve for what we've done, good or bad, doesn't that mean some sort of punishment?

the punishment is loss of rewards or not having many rewards.

although you made it to heaven, you'll be thinking about rewards you lost because of decisions you made in your life.

as for "punishment" as in going to hell then thats what Christ is for...His blood covers you.

You're reading too much into it.

The first verse deals with our sins being forgiven. The second one deals with the good we have done. If I have two children and one mows the lawn, but the other bakes cookies, both have performed good, but one might be rewarded more than the other.
