Well, I'm not very good about talking to people who think they are Christians but may not be either...

But I would tell her that the Catholic church is a Christian church. (This would not be a good time to discuss Catholic Biblical deviations). And I would ask her who she thinks Christ is. that could turn into an interesting discussion.

I was raised Catholic also, so I can relate with you. When I became a Christian it took a bit for God to convince me that there were Catholics who were true Christians.

When talking to people about Jesus, I try not to make their particular church the issue. Rather, I ask them some pretty pointed questions regarding their relationship with God. Here are some examples of some good questions:

1. How can a person know if they are going to spend eternity with God?

2. Tell me about your spiritual pilgrimage?

3. How do you think a person can come into a correct relationship with God?

Listen to what they tell you regarding what they are trusting in to be in fellowship with God. That will tell you where they are spiritually. Simply finding out if a person is Baptist, Catholic, etc. will not tell you much.

I think you meant to say will NOT tell you much, and yea thats definitely true. Any bible verses anybody has in mind that deals with having a relationship with him, not necessarily verses that shows you how to get saved but verses that shows the importance of having a day to day walk or relationship with Jesus Christ

scratch that....both types would be helpfull....versus that shows how to be saved AND shows the importance of having a day to day walk with Him

I like you and a few others who have replied have the same church backgrounds. I for the first 20 years of going to church went because that was where my mother went.

Like EricH so wisely said: When talking to people about Jesus, I try not to make their particular church the issue.

Because in the end it's not about denoms. and such it's about Jesus and what He did for All of mankind at Calvary!

I like what you said about yourself and experience, this is very similiar to me. Might I suggest you share more of your personal testimony with this person.

This can and possibly will have the most impact on this person.

The one thing I tell people if asked about where I came from, I do not focus on church or doctrine but rather on my personal desire to learn more of God and of being unfulfilled where I was at, NOT THE CHURCH OR DOCTRINE.

Personal differences with church or doctrine will do nothing but cause confusion and division as they have already expressed when they shared of her past experience.

People feel attacked and become very defensive.
