We changed the batteries on the remote, and the TV still wouldn't respond.

We brought in a different remote and tried all the different codes on the list for my TV brand, and it was still unresponsive.

I think there is something wrong with the TV.

Anyone here know what I can do, other than take it to a repair shop or something?

Did you make sure that the remote is set for 'TV," not "DVD," or some other device?

Is the IR receiver on the TV covered up or is something like a plant blocking the remote?

Have you moved your TV? Is sunlight shining on it or on the remote? That can interfere with the IR signal.

Unless it is a real expensive TV or an HDTV, don't waste your money repairing it. You'll need an HD TV or an HD converter soon anyway.

If it does not respond to these unseen forces of the remote control, sending its sweet influences via the friendly ethers, then the TV is obviously a heretic and must be burned!

Actually, a obstruction of dust can build up over the 'eye' that senses the remote's commands. Clean that lens with a lens cloth, and it may just work.....

Are you positive the batteries that you used are working? I have on several times taken brand new batteries out the package and into a device only to find out frustrating minutes later that the batteries are dead as well.

Pressing the TV/DVD button does nothing. :b:

No.

Eeks!

Yup - put the batteries in a flashlight and the flashlight worked fine.

Have someone throw it out an upstairs window. Leave it out in the rain for a day. Bring it back in, disregard the smashed screen, and plug it in. It should respond to the remote then.
