Can't find anything about this in the print media but according to television news "the powers that be" want "only the elite" in sydney at that time. Ordinary people are being "encouraged" to leave the city.

APEC security barrier erected in Sydney

Last Updated: Saturday, September 1, 2007 | 10:50 AM ET

CBC News

Crews in Sydney, Australia are building a 5.5-kilometre steel-and-concrete fence to keep demonstrators and delegates apart at next week's APEC summit.

The Sydney Opera House and hotels that will house more than 5,000 delegates will be hidden behind the barrier for the Sept. 2-9 meetings

There were traffic disruptions as work continued on the three-metre-high fence Saturday, a day ahead of the official start of the APEC summit, which culminates in the leaders' meeting next weekend.

Police expect violent protests against the war in Iraq and on climate change, but according to critics, the security measures are designed to frighten those thinking about attending the demonstrations.

"This is part of a seriously intense intimidation campaign, the likes of which I have never seen in my experience before," said rally organizer Alex Bainbridge.

About 3,500 police, backed by 1,500 counter-terrorism and special forces soldiers, will ensure protesters stay away from the security zone marked by the fence.

The APEC summit is one of the largest gatherings of world powers and will be the biggest international meeting Australia has ever hosted.

"Right now, there's one priority, there's one show in town and that's APEC," New South Wales state police Commissioner Andrew Scipione told reporters on Saturday.

"APEC must be delivered. It's the biggest security event we've ever had in this nation," he said.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper is due in Sydney next weekend. He will follow that trip with an official visit to Australia and become to first Canadian prime minister to address the country's parliament.

hay man i read what you stated and i am only 7 hrs from sydney so i am glad that i do not work in sydney any more yet this is a first for our country and right now there is a big crack down and people are being searched as three police radios went missing and bollet proff vest and those protesters are trouble makers so do not listen to all you hear yes people have a right to express there concerns but when ever these nuts say its going to be a peace full protest it wil almost turn out violent i use to work in the security industry and i know my friends that stil work are all telling me the police are on alert as about a month ago some one got into a truck and took sevral scud missles and these can fit into a small back pack and if one is fired it can almost do some harm

most who live in sydney wear told to take time of work and go out of sydney right now let me tell you those that have buisness in sydney and those that work in the city are not happy with what our prime minister did by having apec hear no matter what good it does for the country and this is a first for our police and other forces

most of sydney is blocked off even school kids are taking time off to protest yet i am in support of what the army is doing over seas as al my side served in the croation army and my half brother is serving know in the croation army as a snipper

people just dont seem to think and think by prottesting and asking serving soldiers to come home wil stop al the violence in iraq if i did not have a criminal record or bad past i would my self be serving in the army doing my best for our country yet the path i took i am not able to join the police force or the army

yet i am praying for our soldiers and for the others fighting in iraq right now

those that are organizing these protest are lazy most of them wil not work and have the brains to organize things like this yet our police hear wil do there best as there are young kids in the midle of this and these are my fears as i do not want to see young high school kids being taken advantage of or wear if something goes wrong wear they come in harms way

yet saturday wil be intresting to see if these nuts do go violent

Damo, I don't think this is at all about the protesters. Using Saturday's protest is nothing but a convenient excuse to build a wall around Sydney's CBD and keep the "plebs" out.

The "world leaders" attending the APEC conference are supposed to be working for the people. And it is the Aussie taxpayer who has paid for their luxury accommodation, their endless, pointless, absolutely useless "talks" and all the tidying up of streets to "make the place look nice for world leaders".

Somehow these "leaders" have got the idea that the do not exist to serve the people, but the people exist to serve them.

Every country who has a "leader" attending this (absolutely pointless) "conference" is paying extortionate amounts of money for their particular "leader" to stay in the most luxurious hotel possible and to travel in luxury (to mention just a few things). John Howard has absolutely no right to wall of part of a city (which, after all belongs to the people, not him) and demand that ordinary people stay away from their own property or be totally inconvenienced.

What about the small businessman, who is (according to what I have read) will be facing bankruptcy due to this APEC conference? Will the government be compensating him for this? I rather doubt that!

This happens every where there's an APEC, WTO or G8 Summit. The Sydnians are inconvenienced for a few days. Blame the Germans, or French or whoever that decided to set a precedent of turning peaceful protests into rioting and anarchy.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
