Muslim news - UK has become a surveillance society

Well gee...if the Muslim Fundamentalists would stop blowing up stuff in the UK, I imagine they wouldn't be watched so much!

This is about the native UK population, not necessarily the Muslims. The point I was making was: As it seems the UK government have opted to cancel freedom for their own people using as their excuse (or part of anyway) the "war on terror, it seems that Muslims are winning this "war"!

Hey, here's an idea: Seeing as their government seems to have deemed that 100% of their population must be either criminals or potential criminals. Why not just take the money spent on surveillance, build a giant prison spanning the entire country and then imprison everyone. Then, theoretically, there would be NO crime or terrorism to worry about.

And while we're at it, Kari has asserted that the "Muslims blow up stuff in UK", so how about detailing just what "stuff" these Muslims blow up all the time?

It really does seem to me that this is all a solution looking desperately for a problem.

At my college, there are security cameras in the parking garage, along the outside wall by the woods (where it gets dark and lonely at night), in the parking lot, and several other places. When I am walking alone late at night (I work the late shift), I am grateful for those cameras.

There is only one security guard in the room with the monitors for the camera. Whenever I have walked past the room, I've never seen the guard showing much interest in the mundane routine of the people he sees in the cameras.

I can't imagine the people hired to monitor those camera in Britain are any different.

This is about government demanding information that it doesn't need, sharing that information, retaining that information unnecessarily and without explanation as if it has a perfect right to. It is about more than four million surveillance cameras not just in dark lanes at night where people may be walking to or from work and are vulnerable (as in Nebula's case).

The security guard may seem disinterested in looking at the monitors for the security cameras, and this may (may not too) also be the case with the UK cameras but surely you don't believe that that justifies government, councils and private companies putting the surveillance cameras everywhere.

I don't wish to be horrible to you Nebula, but would'nt your college be better off to provide you with a lighted entranceway to the car park or even a weapon to carry. Afterall if you did get attacked there the only help the surveillance camera might be is to (possibly) identify your attacker - so that he might be apprehended after it is too late.

Paranoia will destroy you. As long as you are obeying the law, what can they do to you? IF they are really out to get you, they will do it the old fashioned way, they will drag you in with no probable cause.
