I am actually mennonite but I go, since I was little, to a pentacostal church called Elim Tabernacle, it is an amazing church. People of all ages on fire for God, I have never felt closer to God then when I am at church. Whoever says you do not need church is missing out. When two or more are gathered in his name he is there, amd I fuly believe that.

Wow!! So it took me a while to get through all the the posts on this topic but I'm glad that I did. Throughout the posting process you have brought up many of the encouraging and not so encouraging aspects of a physical church. I was raised Roman Catholic then spent a few years away from religion all together as a result of a some of the not so encouraging things that happened in my church back home.

However, God had a plan for me. He brought some people into my life that I spend enourmous amounts of time with for different courses (I'm a chemist). One of my co-workers the summer I was 20, encouraged me to seek after what I was hungry for. That fall, I was saved and attended a AOG church in Fargo for 2 years.

But, now that I've moved to central NY. Those of you that have gone through the church searching process, I'm feeling for you right now. The only thing that I have to say is :oww: !!! :D It doesn't help any that they lord has lead me that I won't be at the AOG church here (That would be too simple, right?? ) :D There is so much that I'm learning in this process though about what I truely believed, that no church is perfect, that there is always a hunger for fellowship with other christians, and that denominational lines shouldn't limit a search. A good solid church that embodies the Church of Christ is more important than the label that is etched on the sign in front of the church.

Fortunately, the churches that I've attended here have been extremely open and welcoming and am down to 2 (a non-denominational bible church and a vineyard church). I will keep all of you in my prayers as you go through the trials of finding a place where you can gather in the flesh for love, encouragement, growth, and fellowship.

God Bless you all!!

Whats a Church? Jusst kiddding lol I think the question should be more what is the building in which you choose worship at? Since according to the Bible at least the person is the church. So if the person is the church tecnically you really do not need to go any where. :x:

did i already answer this...?

oh well.

up at school, i attend church of the nations, which recently became affiliated with AOG. at home (during breaks, etc.), i've been attending a non-denom church called new covenant. before that, i attended northside baptist at home (because that's where my friend goes).

reasons:

COTN--i started going there my freshman year because it's the church that sponsors the campus ministry i began going to. i really enjoyed the church because of its diversity, emphasis on missions, worship, and the people who absolutely love Jesus. most of my spiritual growth, however, has come from the campus ministry. we have an emphasis on discipleship and being real with one another and God.

NC--i started going to this church because i'd heard great things about it and there was a lot of stupid drama going on with my friend and her friends at her church. i fell in love with this church for the relevant, biblical messages, the vibrant worship, spirit-led services, concern for the nations, and diversity. i haven't had much of a chance to get to know people, but i look forward to attending "home church" cell groups during breaks from school.

pamjane,

you seem to enjoy quite a variety there. Any reason why you haven't setled down someplace? I mean, most denominations have a congregation in every city

Steve,

You have a point. But a church is its people not its label. Just because a church of a certain denomination is good in one city does not mean that it is good in another. Kudos to Pamjane for exploring churches that feed her spiritually.

God Bless you!

Of course.

But we all need to settle down sometime, and make a decision.

I attend Highland Baptist church!!! And as you can see it's a Baptist church!!! I attend that church not because it's a baptist church but because it's the church that i feel the lord has lead me too. I feel like i have a purpose there and that's why i go there. I am 16 and i attend a different church than my parents because of that reason!!!

How is it different from the church of your parents?

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
