Follow the evidence. How many times have I heard that from non-believers on these boards.

Yet I think it goes beyond that. It's not only a matter of following the evidence, but a sober and honest evaluation of that evidence....then acting on it.

Ad hominems from ancient songs are no basis for a rational argument. You'd also do well to acknowledge the difference between strong atheism and weak atheism.

With regards to the Antony Flew debate - at worst it's the exploitation of a senile old man (not senial damo - if you used a spellcheck and proper puncutation your posts would be much nicer to read), at best it's a rehash of an ancient argument for deism. It offers nothing new to the debate, serving only to titillate the pitiful minority who still cling on to creationism.

English isn't damo's first language, so why don't you NOT worry about his spelling and puncutation, and find something of merit to discuss.

You heard wrong. There's negligible support for it in the scientific community. It's been rejected across the religious spectrum too, even from the highly conservative Roman Catholic Church.

The distinction is simple, but vital.

Strong atheist - "There is no God."

Weak atheist - "I don't believe in God."

The first is an absolute assertion that cannot be defended, as one would need an unimaginable amount of evidence to justify the conclusion. Yes, the old "you can't prove a negative" axiom.

The second is merely stating that one does not find enough compelling evidence to warrant a belief in God. It's not an absolute rejection, but it's essentially assuming there isn't a God - in the same way, you essentially assume that there are no unicorns living in the Amazon, though you can't outright PROVE there are none.

the statement of the weak atheist i can at least understand but i thought they were called agnostics. as for the statement of the strong atheist, well that's just silly. how did that person get to know everything there is to know?
