If you repent but only repent because the what you've done is a sin, rather than because you regret what you have done, do you still get forgiven?

Are sure "repentance" is the word you want to use?

Repentance by definition is a change due to remorse. Repentance demands that you feel "bad" about what you've done.

You don't "repent because something is sin". This means you're doing something (that you call repenting) just to get out of your sin.

If you're not at all remorsful, you haven't repented. Remember, salvation does not come in revering the church, or praying prayers, it comes from a knowledge of sin, a remorse for that sin, and a faith that Christ can cover those sins, even though you yourself can not.

Your confessions, and your prayers will not help you, but your realization that your sin is wrong, and an offense to God. Believe me when you repent, you'll be in tears, you will feel sorry for that which you've done, otherwise it's not repentance at all!

Jesus Christ Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.

I have done an 'about face' on some things, even though I DID NOT feel remorse. I came to understand their wickedness, frankly asked God for forgiveness, truly repented, and promised not to do them. After a time of growth in the Lord, I truly came to grieve for having offended my Lord, and for the way I had given in to wickedness formerly. But at first it was rather matter-of-fact.

With a blessing,

Leonard, a sinner

If you repent but only repent because the what you've done is a sin, rather than  because you regret what you have done, do you still get forgiven?

What kind of a spiritual state could possibly result from what you are saying.

You are technically saying that you are sorry that God made something a sin, not sorry for being a sinner.

That seems to be a very un-natural state to be in for a christian.

I don't think I could answer your question without a lot of extra information....

Whatever 'state' im in, you have absolutely NO right to judge me or what i believe. That is for God, and God alone, to do.

I don't mean to be judgemental, I am more confused by the question than anything else. I really don't understand exactly what you mean.

Hi Darkest Red,

First of all,

Welcome to the Worthy Boards!

We look forward to getting to know you.

I must say that I am not sure what you are asking though, care to elaborate? No one is trying to judge you, just understand where you are coming from.

God bless!

In Jesus

Kevin

I think I know what you mean..... You do something and you know it's a sin, you may even stop it because you have head-knowledge that it is sin yet it isn't in your heart to feel bad or remorseful right? After all, it probably didn't affect anyone but yourself right? I'd say that this results from not really knowing the magnitude of your sin which may be a result from not having a super-close walk with Him knowing Him. Please don't take this the wrong way - I went through the exact same thing. What I realized was that I didn't know the weight or magnitude of my sin until I started obeying Him. I examined myself daily, read the Bible daily, prayed constantly, purposely tried thinking pure thoughts and found that I was so much happier now that I was walking according to His will. Then when I did that sin again, I felt it. If you want to know more PM me.

Blessings,

BPC

You may not mean to be judgemental but from where I'm standing you are being so i'm sorry if that was my mistake but I can only ever go on what I see.
