The term "Son of Man" was also a messianic reference from the Old Testament

Son of man (בן־אדם : [ben-'adam])

ben-'adam looks to be a reference to Adam, likely meaning son "of Adam". In this case one can assume it does indeed refer to his humanity.

He is man's representative in the sacrifice that is about to be made. He was the sacrificial Lamb in man's place. Thus representing man.

The title "Son of Man" was first used of Jesus by Daniel in Daniel 7:13-14.

I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.

(Daniel 7:13-14)

This is prophecy the people of Jesus' day would have been familiar with. By calling Himself the Son of Man, He was identifying Himself with Daniel's prophecy. The Jews understood, the title "Son of Man" to be referencing the Messiah, and so everytime Jesus took the term, "Son of Man" for Himself, He was proclaiming Himself to be the Messiah.

So much for the liberal Bible critics who claim Jesus never claimed to the Messiah. LOL :(

i also note that angels were referred to as 'sons of God'. Jesus would have wanted to make it absolutely clear that he was not an angel.

Awsome! :th_praying:

Jesus was all God and all man at the same time. I have always wondered why the phrase "son of man" made the naysayers so mad at Jesus! They considered it blasphemy.
