    Help

Hello, can anybody, please, help me? I'm translating this video but I fail to understand from 5:10 to 5:13. http://www.movingworks.org/films/josiah/
  3. That's all well and good -- but it needs to be done without getting fired first. They tried the no water thing here also -- which is illegal in my state since we're mostly desert. They dropped the issue like a hot potato when that little fact was mentioned. The situation is hard to describe and has more to do with psychological type abuse than the more obvious kind. These folks are very careful to avoid the lawyers. I'm looking for something else in the mean time but not having much in the way of results. Yes that can be a real problem, on the part of you contract you're sure that you have nothing that can keep you in place? If, as you said it's more a psychological abuse I think that you workers might be protected by this kind of things. Besides, I'm sorry that I don't know well the laws of your country. A good start is praying for another work for you, wich I'll surely do. Practically speaking, I hope you can find some good choice.
  4. I put it back in It's place. Years ago where I work people never drunk (water) or ate because they were told it cannot be done. A colleague with kidneys problem had to present a medical certification to keep a bottle of water with her. At first I didn't say anything about it. When even I begun to have to dring regularly, I simply kept a bottle with me, without saying anything. When people asked: "You keep a bottle? They don't say nothing to you?" I simply answered: "And who could say to me something like You can't drink? With all the complaint I could file against everyone or the company itself I'm pretty sure they know It's better to don't say nothing" Now everyone keeps a bottle. The point is that nobody can deny your rights. So, my advice is this: if you want to find work elsewhere do it, but at first teach wisdom to your co-workers. That's what Solomon teaches in Ec 10:4
  5. Oh well; you're still ahead of some people I know. How come you can use the emoticons? So, as a non american I'm better than some americans? I don't know if I may be reassured or worried! P.S. the emoticons are in the bottom box of reply: you can see font size, and the A for text (wichs I used.... I HATE yellow!!!) if you click on the smiley It shows emoticons!
  6. Hey I got 18/30 , but what was I expecting?
  7. For years christians in my country praied for an awakening. There are often times, little glimpse of understanding, that lead me to think that His time is coming. Sometimes It seems lik He's reuniting His army. I'm concerned by the fact that I have difficulty to pray enough to obtain a greater knowledge on this topic.
  8. There have been another little quake just an hour ago... Many people slept in the streets the last nights
  9. If We let God work in us, EVERY moment of our lives can give us a deeper realization of our relationship with Him. However, It is true that we live a life that give us no time; one of the more difficult things to remember is to take our time with God, and It is right, to understand the seasons we're in. Thank you for sharing those beautiful thoughts. I pray that every question you'll pass through will make you stronger in the ways of Jesus.
  10. God would do, I believe... As for the sneezing it comes right from ancient Greece. It was believed that when you sneeze soul can escape from the body. In fact you anglosaxon say God bless you that is an extension of "bless You"l. In Italy we say "Salute" that translates as "Health" and was the original meaning. But if I had a lightsaber I'd say "May the Lord be with you"
  11. I believe that the greatests problems are three 1. where we are: normally, if we speak about Jesus with someone we met, we're standing before him, listening to the words and answering. In this way is easy to understand what a person thinks, we can hear her tone, see her expressions and so on. In a forum It's another thing. I find that the most difficult thing is remember that I am arguing with a real person, not with a string of words. 2. Remembering to love the debater more than the debate. We're, as was said, planting a seed. Planting a seed is a difficult thing, you have to be very careful, when you excavate and whe you bury the seed, otherwise it will be lost even before it can grows. To make it grow is God's work, but It will be easier if we plant it kindly and well! 3. Sometimes we see something we think is wrong and we immediately strike: "No, how can You say that, It's obvious that the comma was BEFORE "Peor" and not AFTER! This will totally change you understanding of the successive three words of this versicle!" Maybe It's true, maybe not, some things are better argued only between christians that even with nonbelievers. 4We really, really, must remember to pray! Anytime, we read, anytime we thing and anytime we write!
  12. It was well after I accepted Christ that I even know of any gifts. This is not something that I "practiced", but was the Holy Spirit speaking through me. At first, I was hesitant to allow Him to do so, but then it became a blessing and a natural experience to pray in tongues. I knew in my heart that this was right. A mirror image of how I came to speak in tongues Alan And I can say the same thing!
  13. ehehe I really appreciated all your jokes, I've not the capability to do the same in a foreign language, but It's similar to what I do in my country's language (I have to admit that I've had to read twice the part about Babel to get it! ) My problem with logic is that many times I find It's misused, because, as you said, the LOGOS (even its concept) is easily misunderstood. what i think is that, many times, God is treated as something that must be proved by reasoning and the use of logic rules. The problem I see in this is that *if* we really want to speak about God with logic terminology, we cannot consider it as something to be proved because, to be proved are Theories. To me God is beyond logic (again, I'm speaking about logic as the set of reasoning rules) or, at least, He can be no other than the starting point. To make it clear let me make an example: in Euclidean geometry you have 5 axioms (self-evident truths) to start with, then you can derive the rules and theorems by them. I believe that the problem with trying to prove God is that, in this kind of language, He is the Axiom, and you cannot prove an axiom. Just to be more clear, I think that God is a self-evident truth, and I'm pretty sure that anyone here agrees with me. What I'm questioning is if it's convenient trying to prove Him.
  14. It is true that respect must be earned, but education is important. I think It's a matter of perspective: if one thinks that bowing to a queen\king or another nobiliar figure is a matter of good manners, He's right in doing it. But if this seems idolatrous for another one, than It is right to not bow. Maybe It's because I'm not American nor British, but I find a strange idea to not bow because I'm not subject to the Queen, it's just like not shaking hands with someone because I'm not used to it.
  15. And on that we totally agree, Htese are the same things I say but, my question is why, wherever I look, people try to prove God with logic? With Human logic, I mean. This is what I'm asking!
  16. I don't know if this is the right section for the topic so, feel free to move it as you wish. I took my time to read many conversations about the law and how it coud prove God. Now, I'm not intersted in the opinion of non-believers. I only wish to know that of Christians: do you really believe it? Do you really believe that God can be proved with moral law? Ok, before You answer, I give you my opinion, so that anyone can understand why I'm asking it: I don't think that the moral law can prove God. I don't think that God can be proved logically in any way. I'm not trying to rise controversies, It's just that, because I think It's really important to understan what we believe and *why* I'm really curious. So, please, explain yourselves!
  17. Isaiah 66:1 - "Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool..." So you are saying the LORD's throne revolves around the His footstool? This is really good! so good that it never even had a response, so the point it's taken, how can God say that His throne revolves around His footstool? Speaking about Joshua long day ehm... well... how it's possible to use this as a proof that the earth doesn't move? Really, it has NOTHING to do with the movement of earth! However, I must admit that, in terms of physical laws, it's not wrong to say that the earth is still. It always depends on what kind of reference system you choose. We have to remember that we don't say that the earth revolves around the sun because it's right and the contrary is wrong, but because It is simplier! If we take the earth as the center of the solar system we have many difficult calculation to rightly predict the movement of celestial bodies; instead, using the sun as Mass Centre of our reference system, it all gets simplier.
  18. Italy had always great interest in its partnership with Libya, socially and economically. In the space of few days the price of gasoline passed from 1.2
  19. Even the cult of saints comes from syncretism, as Nebula rightly underlined, It can really be linked to the Greek-romans habit of having the "Lari" (I think that in english they are lar or lares). They were domestic divinities with the role of protecting the homes. With time this role passed to the cononized saints of the roman catholic church. Time ago I've read a interesting quotation from a Catholic theologian, to explain the practice of praying Mary or the saints it said something like this: "Imagine that you are in great industry. If you need something you can't always ask the boss, because he has many things to do, so you can call one of his attendant and they will intercede for you" I think this is really a decepting way of seeing God'kingdom, but it explains in some way how this habit was born and can survive
  20. Well... reading this I feel really amazed thinking how much of what we do and think is already shown in the Bible! however...I'm working on a survey about ecologism and Christianity for a evangelistical periodic... Can anyone of You suggest me where I may find hints for this topic?
  21. Because if a Muslim dies, and meets the Lord (your version of Him), then I would be puzzled. But if a guy was Christian before, then I am not impressed. Christians, I believe, speak with the Lord (their version of Him) all the time. The same is, of course valid, for believers of other creeds (and their versions of the Deity). But the question of OP is for me pointless. I am not a theologian, but I cannot figure a guy dying, report to God (this step I think must also take place), go to Heaven (or Hell) and then come back to life. I expect that God knows that his life will soon be restored and restrain from any judgment until he is really dead (for obvious reasons). Therefore I do not think that these visions of Heaven (they are seldom visions of Hell) actually took place. OK, it could be that they are going to Heaven to report, but that does not make sense since God knows that they will go back. I think people that experience this are not dead (what is the definition of it, anyway?). Many people experienced momentarily cardiac arrest followed by oxygen drop on the brain that can cause hallucinations (light tunnels, etc.). And no, I do not believe in miracles. As I said before miracles are usually statistical deviations from the norm (like being shot and the head and survive) which are so seldom (and driven by chance) that amazes people and make them think of miracles. And miracles usually affect healing of people who are still in one piece. I never saw somebody recovering from down syndrome or develop a brand new limb, or recovering from a serious genetic illness, even though they pray a lot. I hear that performing these miracles would expose God immediately to everybody and affect our free will, but I think there is an easier solution. It is like admitting that the only miracles that can happen are the ones that could also be non-miracles. Well, I'm partially with you. Even I think that it's impossible to say for sure in what case death happens, 'cause we don't know for sure what definition of death we could take for granted. For the rest, I think the problem It's the same: We, as Christians, don't speak about the "philospoher's God" wich, in fact, It's the one you're referring to. Too much thinking about the logical explanation of the intentions of God drive away from the fact that God is love, not only logic and, in a secondary way, a supreme logic it's difficult to understand. Refuting this at all speaking about luck, or some others "supernatural" ideas doesn't resolve the problem, but only revolves it. As for miracles, It's again the same thing, You spoke about statistical deviation from the norm, but how this can disprove miracles?
  22. God is nothing but thoughts and his first creation was light energy that we know as the Word. This is the power God needed to create everything else within his thoughts. We are told that we're created in the image of God so we are thoughts, also known as the heart, mind and soul of a man. We never leave God but we need a body to experience our thoughts. Our brains are the processor of our thoughts and this is what makes our bodies function according to God's plans in our thoughts. Think of our bodies as a puppet and our thoughts in God are the strings that make it move, talk, see, hear, smell, taste and touch. We're a lot like how a computer works. Our bodies are the mainframe with memory and a processor and all the perifils attached to it. The program, harddrive and power is the power of God and our created thoughts. The computer can't function without this power and information. By the way, there is no hell. This word came from other words describing the graveyard where our bodies are thrown after God stops the flow of our thoughts. Our bodies are always dead atoms but when the thoughts are coming into our brains, then our bodies respond to them. When our thoughts are stopped by God, then our bodies can't function anymore, even though they still have all the atoms there to make it look like a body. Here's what Jesus said about our bodies. John 6 63: It is the spirit that gives life, the flesh is of no avail; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. 64: But there are some of you that do not believe." For Jesus knew from the first who those were that did not believe, and who it was that would betray him. 65: And he said, "This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father." this explanation seems to me pretty unsatisfactory in some points: I cannot comprehend the assumption that God is only thought. If God was only thought then how the actions are coming out from these thoughts? as for john 6:63, It might be read from all chapter 6 to really look into the right context: "the flesh is of not avail"(or profit, wich I think it's a better translation...) it's referred principally to the "flesh" as the things of the life, He's talking with Hebrews in this part of the Gospel. He is not referring to bodies in this case. As for the dead atoms mantained by the flow of thoughts, well, I think this is nor biblically neither scientifically possible to be proved, or said.
  23. I think that It's possible that angels give aid to the people of God, even appearing as humans, but I'm not convinced that there is something like a personal guardian angel. I cannot see the utiliy of such a figure
