  3. thanks Afal! I might use that guy as a lead to a different layer of my paper.
  4. i never considered going prior to u asking that question. if i had the means, i would definitely consider it. it would be an interesting trip to take, for sure.
  5. hmmm, thats actually a very interesting piece of information for my project, that some who go there are so affected that they dont wanna talk about it.
  6. thanks Neb But I have been using websites extensively, especially that one. I was hoping for some other sources other than journals and websites.
  7. very interesting. i didnt even know of these places! i am doing a project on tourism in Auschwitz and needed to find out if you guys had any brochures or any souvenirs you bought or anything of that sort.
  8. Howdy good people I was wondering if anyone here has ever been to Auschwitz or knows someone who has been there or knows someone who lived through it or whatever. If so, may you pm me pweese. gracias!
  9. thats a LOT of money! I am sure all illegal aliens have house-fulls of money like the article is insinuating!
  10. hmmm, I am not sure healingoil understands what my grievance is interesting. so this is how to feels to talk and have people not actually hear what u are saying. very interesting indeed.
  11. bib, i am not debating that at all. the real issue that bothers me is that people have a tendency to think the western culture is the standard and that those in teh west have the cultural practices that everyone else should follow. if anyone does anything different, then they are labeled as "primitive" or whatever. which is why statements like the one u just made are a hard for me to read. sorcery is a very real and serious crime in their society. to the western society we dismiss such things as silly when to them, it is a matter of great importance. they have justice system set up in place to deal with such things in accordance with what works for them. we are quick to judge without even looking at things critically or bothering to understand how and why things are done the way they are.
  12. So, basically what you are saying is if you do understand their "entire social structure" it then justifies their actions? no. I am saying that its easy to come to conclusions, which are most likely to be mistaken, if you dont understand the situation. Holy apples and oranges, batman! Ummm, then they obviously were found guilty of a crime and so their being locked up is indeed justified. Not only was this woman not found guilty of something, but, the way they handled it is nothing like how we handle those who are found guilty - it was nothing less then barbaric. you are right, our prison system only locks up people who are found guilty without error. so unlike these PNG people whose justice system is obviously flawed. I am sorry for making absurd assertions. I mean really, we all know for sure that there is no way that this woman could have possibly been guilty.
  13. hmmm, thanks for daring to think! it really does depend on the specific people/tribe who did the hanging, since each has a way of dealing with reciprocating a wrong. since i am not familiar with how the Kilip people work, i cant elaborate further on how the hanging was done. will look into it though and get back to ya. just for ha has, i am guessing here that the hanging was probably done as a warning or in a sympathetic way or not in the fullest way that it would have been done otherwise.
  14. Moral relativism is what your are trying to discuss. So, have a philosphical debate while you are safe in Ontario, while innocent men, women and children are being unjustly murdered and imprisoned worldwide. If you are a Christian, then you should be familiar with the Bible. Jesus taught us everything we need to know about being civilized to each other. That's the gold standard, God's standard. I think you misunderstood. I am not activating for murder and false imprisonment. I am advocating for not just taking what the media tells you at face value but rather, to dare to explore further into social structures that are different from your own so as to understand how they work rather than just dismissing them as barbarians without actually taking the time to understand them.
  15. well, thats why I brought in the question of standard (relativism). If you dont understand the entire social structure, of course you are gonna think their actions are not justified. I can also dare to say that those people who make pregnant women wear orange jumpsuits and lock em up in tiny cells and control their every move have very little standards and such behavior should not be excused. as glory2000 would say, "we should pray for heathens such as these but their ignorance makes them no less evil."
  16. PC = politically correct. Uncivilized = hanging a man and woman from a tree for "sorcery" just because their neighbor died. ha! My guess was that it meant Presidents Choice. maybe if I italicize and bold it, someone might answer. Uncivilized by whose standards? What? You don't like my answer? You responded but u didnt really answer my question. I wasnt asking for a definition or an example. You can go ahead and re-read my question
  17. PC = politically correct. Uncivilized = hanging a man and woman from a tree for "sorcery" just because their neighbor died. ha! My guess was that it meant Presidents Choice. maybe if I italicize and bold it, someone might answer. Uncivilized by whose standards? Hmmm, to answer your first question .... how much time do you have? and yes, this story seems accurate to the practices of some folks in PNG. If you think this is "weird", wait till you find out about their other rituals concerning passing into adulthood. highly highly fascinating! but i guess thats the problem with these kinds of news articles, they just grab a snippet of an otherwise highly complex societal structure that its hard for an average reader who knows nothing about the society to comprehend exactly whats going on. meh, the shock factor is the intended effect i guess
  18. LOL! what does it mean to be PC? I think i like the sound of it though. In ur face everyone ..... I am soooooo PC! again I ask, uncivilized by whose standard?
  19. one really has to understand cultures in THEIR OWN CONTEXT before brandishing the "civilized" sword. civilized by whose standards?
  20. i dont like cats and i dont like meatloaf either. it tastes funny.
