  1. I agree whole-heartedly with you alien. It's a real problem in thinking that I've seen often in the chat room- on the boards too. It's not (for most) as simple as "surrendering" to Jesus or trusting god or any of that. It infuriates me when people minimize our mental disorders as if they are a choice- as if they are just something we can suck up and get over. I get enough of that from my family I definitely don't need it from my internet family too. I am sorry if I came across as saying that surrendering to Jesus is the only solution needed, it is not. I have managed it, but it has cost me in terms of blood, sweat and tears and I am still nowhere near to being "normal". I will say that surrendering to Jesus is a good start though, the love, and faith, I feel from God is a steady rock which helps me go on. It allows me to Know that I am not alone. I will still urge people to get the help they need though, but pair it WITH faith and prayer, for I feel that is more effective than just drugs alone. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Now Oldshep I have had this conversation a few times with people, and I truely understand how you can see that I am putting myself down with my chat handle. The truth is a little different though to what is seen. I know who I am. I am prideful, stubborn, stiff necked and rebellious, and so my name invisible is not because I want to hide. It is instead a reflection of what I want to become, I desire to do the will of God so much that when people see me, they say "There goes a man who follows God's heart". I desire to become invisible within the love of God so that when people see, and speak to me they do not see the prideful, rebellious person I am/was, but instead they see and feel the power of God's love moving through me. Still have a long road to travel.
  2. This article makes interesting reading. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/03/30/mother-faces-contempt-jail-for-baptizing-children/?test=latestnews
  3. Though they make up some of the dates (such as Christmas), Easter is pretty well certain as being the day that Jesus died. The bible mentions that Jesus was crucified the day before Passover started, and in the evening the Roman soldiers had to break the condemned people legs so that they would not have to "work" during Passover. When they came to Jesus they found he seemed to be already dead, and so pushed a spear into his side to make sure. As they did so, blood and water came out.
  4. I had read that he was suspended from school for possession of a controlled substance (drugs), but I do not know if this is true. As to why he was in a gated community, his dad lived there (not sure if he was divorced or not, though the fact that his mother has a different last name may indicate that). Treyvon Martin was supposedly there to watch a basket ball game on TV, and during the half time break went to the gas station to buy drinks/snacks and was killed by Mr Zimmerman on his back. Ok. The articles I read did not mention his father lived in the gated community. OK here is some info that may or may not help. Found on that fount of knowledge, Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shooting_of_Trayvon_Martin

  6. This touches on a difficult and painful part of my life. If you have read my testimony, then you have read that I was/am a depressive with strong suicidal tendencies, and have been for many years (19 and counting). unfortunately (and again this is on show in my testimony) I am to dumb and stubborn to see a mental health professional. This has lead to many a time where I have tasted/felt death when i should not have (they are images/feelings/tastes that I will never forget). Thankfully I have God in my life, all the times I have desired death that much that I have held a barrel of a gun in my mouth, held a knife against the veins and arteries in my arms, felt that rope tightening around my neck. God has managed to give me something to stand on (metaphorically and physically). I cannot understand it all, and I still have not seen a mental health professional (to my shame, i am still too stubborn), but I can tell you that by surrendering myself to God in those darkest of times, that God has slowly lifted me up to a place where death no longer has such a deep hold on me, a place where my "normal" is a place where most people would only be sad, and the number of days where I want to kill myself has dropped drastically. I would urge all people who feel the call of death to see a reputable mental health professional, now if only I could convince myself of that..............................
  7. In the end though, if space tourism takes off (and i think it will), this will pay for it's self many times over. I tell you know if I had the money I would buy myself a seat or more and go. Just to see the earth from space live, to gaze across the magnificence of God's creation and to be humbled by the sight of His awesome handiwork. Man that would be worth every single last dollar.
  8. There has been a lot made of the fact that it may have been racially motivated. That I disagree with with. Mr Zimmerman is a 1/2 blood himself (Mexican-white) and so i doubt it was racially motivated (though I may be wrong). However here are the facts that I have read. 1. Mr Zimmerman, acting as a member of his neighborhood watch scheme was patrolling his gated community in his car. 2. Mr Zimmerman spots a suspicious person walking in his gated community. At which point he call the police to let them know what was going on. 3. Mr Zimmerman then tells the police dispatcher that "he is going to follow this individual" To which the police dispatcher tells him "No, do not do that" 4. At some point, Mr Zimmerman gets out of his car with a gun strapped to his waist. 5. Probably at this point heated words are exchanged between the two, and Mr Zimmerman draws his gun and shoots the kid. 6. police turn up, and ask Mr Zimmerman what happened, Mr Zimmerman replies that the kid got aggressive with him and that he shot him in self defense, calling on the "stand your ground" law that Florida has (which by the way is supposed to be a defensive law, and only for when you have no way to escape). now I admit that this is probably not a complete picture, but this is what many different news sources seem to agree on. in my humble opinion, Mr Zimmerman only did one thing right, and that was to call the police, the rest is pure stupidity and something we should all learn from. in this case it is what NOT to do if we see a suspicious person in our neighborhood.
  9. Though I have not heard the Jesse Jackson/Blank panthers rhetoric about this slaying, I will say that I do not believe that this killing is racially motivated. I will say that is IS Stupidity motivated. I am still shaking my head at just some of the things that Mr Zimmerman did. I mean OK so calling the police to report what he believed was a suspicious character is OK, but then to act the aggressor and follow someone who may potentially be dangerous, then to ramp up the aggression by getting out of his car, and then to go and confront the person!!! man this guy could have written the book on stupidity. Final insult: To use a DEFENSIVE Law in order to justify his actions. Mr Zimmerman from what I have read cannot use this "Stand your ground law" to defend his actions because he was the aggressor and was not in any way shape or form 'standing his ground'. Final thoughts: Mr Zimmerman acted in a pre-empted, and pre-thought out manner, and then followed through on his actions. this in my book is murder.
  10. I would not mind the operators job. I mean it must take an hour to fill that bucket.
  11. The way things are going at the moment, I very much doubt that I will be able enjoy any sort of retirement by the time I am 75. I suspect by that point the government will have spent all my SS, and taken my 401(k) to pay for their retirement (at age 40). Not bitter, just pessimistic.
  12. Some more tips that might come in handy and limit the damage. 1. Check you bank balance on a regular basis, that way you can immediately see if someone has swiped your card. 2. Check you credit scores on a regular basis as well, that way you can see if someone has swiped your ID 3. Never leave your drivers licence on view in your wallet, with mobile phones as they are today someone can easily snap a picture of your license and use that to apply for credit cards etc. If I have any more pieces of advice, I will post them.
  13. depending on which browser you use as well, there are add-ons which can help. For firefox look for WOT (web of Trust), users can rate a website on how trust worthy it is. Google Chrome also has security addons which can help as well. Final tip, when checking out of an online store, Make sure that in the address bar it says https://www............ instead of http://www....... the s at the end designates that it is a secure server it is using. Now do not get me wrong, all of these things will not stop the determined id thief, but it will stop 95% of casual thieves. Other online tips. Never use an easy to guess password, always use a password which uses letters and numbers in both upper and lower case, and if you can remeber it use symbols as well. this makes passwords very difficult to hack. Here is a good website to check how tough your passwords are to crack. http://www.passwordmeter.com/

  15. You know this has been a most interesting thread. And I am going to try and stick my oar in again . It is in our nature to label a person on certain characteristics that they display, in truth my handle came from such a label. If we allow these labels to effect us, then we in effect confirm those labels in other peoples eyes. For example, Monarchy has stressed he hates being called a KJVO kind of guy, yet the more he has argued against such a label, the more it makes me think that it is an apt label (just using it as an example man. As far as I am concerned you are a fellow bro who prefers a particular translation above all others). So what to do about it? Well as childish as this may seem, there is an old kids rhyme that I think does apply here; "Sticks and Stones may break my bones, but words cannot hurt me". I personally have been given more labels than i care to think about, and most of them have not been attractive or good, and when I allowed them to hurt me I would get all agnry and just feed the fire. once I learned just to ignore the labels, then I began to see that people would be willing to change that label once they began to know me.
  16. Oh look, it is another bunch who believe (wrongly) that the Mayans predicted the end of the world. If they would care to read God's word, they would find that no man knows just when the end of the world is. Only God does.
  17. It is an unfortunate fact of life that we label people (often very quickly) on what little we know about them. I actually find nothing wrong with a person preferring a KJV over other translations, I myself prefer the KJV to any other translation, but I will use others as they can help me understand (due to the language they use) more efficiently. As to being a fundermentalist, revel in it. The truth is, no matter what another persons view of us is. It is God's view of us that is the most important.
  18. It was probably a meteor or a piece of space debris falling from space. If you wish you can report what you saw at the following link http://thelatestworldwidemeteorreports.blogspot.com/ And they may be able to tell you what is was you saw.
  19. I am no American, America has become my adopted country though and I cannot believe that anyone was stupid enough to desecrate the US flag that way. Maybe the Obama Administration would like to build a giant statue of Obama in Washington, and then pass a law saying that every time we hear the US national Anthem we have to bow down and worship the image? (and yes I am being a little sarcastic there) And just for fun, have an image link that I feel says it all. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Nin1rVmCNE8/T2FqZh7V4QI/AAAAAAAAKoA/IsKSoa_x8o0/s1600/Malignant_Narcissism.jpg
  20. I have to respectfully disagree with you onelight. The world is looking for hope, but because often so many Christians do not show the world the hope we have in Christ, but instead show our own judgmental attitudes, when the Anti-christ does come proclaiming a message of hope, the world will fall for it like a lead balloon. The anit-christ will possibly come proclaiming the message that Christians should be proclaiming, just in a manner that is selfish and not servant like, that the world will beat a path to his door.
  21. If this is in the wrong place, feel free to move it I find it interesting, in the past couple of years we have had a lot of movies about Super Hero's. Though unlike in the past where super hero movies were bright and everything ended as a happily ever after, today's hero's are more gritty and more depressing. Many of the super hero films of today the Hero is expected to fight our darkness for us, and to show us a better way, a way into the light. I find this interesting, because it shows to me that the world is looking for a hero to take on our darkness, to show us a way into the light, to make us better people than who we are. Yet simultaneously the world wants to reject the one hero who did just that. A hero who was condemned to die by our own hand, who died in love for us so that we may be taken into the light. We know who this hero is, his name is Jesus. yet the world rejects this because, as Christians, so many of us show the judgmental side of our own natures rather than the forgiving Grace of God's. If we want to show the world the hero they are looking for, we must first show them his love.
  22. I am going to try and answer some of these in order. I would suggest that you find yourself a good church, these forums are great but there is nothing like being part of a local body of Christ to grow your faith and to help balance you out. As to how you live with what you have been through? This is going to sound like trite, but it is also the truth. Let go of it, give it all to God and ask him to help you deal with it, and He will. Then just go forward one day at a time. I am not sure I quite understand the question, so forgive me if I get this wrong. You say that the truth about history has been revealed by books like Genesis (Amen to that by the way), and that afterward cause will take on effect? And that all wrong doing will be made right? I think here you may be referring to the books of Romans, where Paul speaks about how we will be judged by the laws we understand. Romans says: 12 When the Gentiles sin, they will be destroyed, even though they never had God’s written law. And the Jews, who do have God’s law, will be judged by that law when they fail to obey it. 13 For merely listening to the law doesn’t make us right with God. It is obeying the law that makes us right in his sight. 14 Even Gentiles, who do not have God’s written law, show that they know his law when they instinctively obey it, even without having heard it. 15 They demonstrate that God’s law is written in their hearts, for their own conscience and thoughts either accuse them or tell them they are doing right. 16 And this is the message I proclaim—that the day is coming when God, through Christ Jesus, will judge everyone’s secret life. I am glad you feel alright when you come here. We do not know what God looks like, for God told Moses at the mount of Sinai that "You cannot see my face, because a man cannot see me and live." (Exodus 33:20) So we have no idea what God looks like. only Moses has ever seen God, and that was from the back. But God is in everything, in the whole of nature, for he created nature. Everything we see is created by God's hands, so looking at nature, is seeing God's works and his grace. Many of the books of the bible are first hand accounts of what they witnessed or even partook in. the first 5 books of the old testament was written by Moses himself in the 40 years of wondering in the wilderness. the books of Matthew, Mark and John were written by people who knew and met Jesus, and Luke was written by a doctor who interviewed eye witnesses to the life of Jesus. in short, the people who put information into the bible, witnessed what they wrote. this makes the bible a definitive and true eye witness account of history.
  23. I realised that I posted my original post in the wrong place (oops). So in the spirit of this section. I will try again I chose to become a Christian when i realised that the world offered nothing but death. All the worlds religions that I looked into seemed to say "Do this and you MAY get to a better place, if my God wants you to". I found that there was no hope in those places, only vague promises and requests for money. I have founds Christianity to be different, Jesus says "believe in me and you WILL get to heaven", this is a far greater hope than a "MAY get to heaven", this is why I choose to answer the knocking of Jesus everyday.
  24. I have actually seen one of these things in person. My Father in law works for a Christian university in the area. His job is to look after all the technological gadgets that they have (His title is material Sciences Tech). Well a few years ago the university brought one for students use in projects. the first thing they did with it was to re-create a adjustable wrench to see how well it worked. So ok the version they use only works with plastic (though ones that use liquid metals are out there on the market), but it is amazing how well it works. A full size, fully working adjustable wrench took less than 10 mins to "print". Now days the students use it to test out new designs for artificial joints and limbs. Some info about what they have achieved. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,578994,00.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LeTourneau_Empowering_Global_Solutions http://www.limbsinternational.org/ The knee joint that was developed here was designed by students using the 3d printer.
  25. You know, It has often been my experience that the way others see us is far far different than the way we see ourselves. And when we find out just how others actually see us uit comes as a massive shock to the system. It is often hurtful, and even embarrassing. This is often difficult to come to terms with and can put a strain on any relationship. However I personally feel that apologizing as profusely as you seem to have done, and being honest while not retracting what was said is probably a good thing. You see if you had immediately removed the post, it could have left this other person thinking that you have been spreading this around their back without their knowledge, and this would in time poison the relationship far better and more completely than doing it the way you have done. Now by leaving it up on the other hand can pose a challenge, a challenge to change for the better, to prove that they are better than what you wrote. It also shows a degree of honesty on your part that will hopefully in time build an even higher level of trust between you. A lot depends on this other person, though from your more recent posts it seems that they are responding well to the shock and will eventually grow closer to you as a result. just remember you cannot make them forgive you, you can only pray for them and be ready to receive that forgiveness. After that the next step is to rebuild the trust and learn from the mistakes.
