I know he's in Georgia..Thomaston, I think...like I said everyone in my congregation, even my pastor, has been there. I just wonder about it...

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone's heard of this man Dr Henry Wright. A number of our congregants have been to his "camp" in Georgia, including our pastor, and they have come back with "glowing reports"...but I have my doubts. Perhaps it's just my natural Thomas nature, but this is the third time the leadership of our church has tried to bring in a "deliverance" ministry, and it kinda bothers me. I mean, it could be just the thing I need, but I don't want to get swept away in some stupid thing that just doesn't help. I'd like to hear anything anyone's heard of this guy. a.

Botz---I tithe 10% of my income when I have it. It's not Law---it was established BEFORE the "law" was given, by Abraham. Even before that, in the Garden. At any rate, even Y'shua tithed, don't you think? Why is it most modern-day "Christians" (I use the term loosely) forget about the basic things Y'shua said...in Mattityahu (Matthew) 5: 17-20, Y'shua said this: "Don't think that I have come to abolish the Torah (teachings and instructions) or the Prophets. I have not come to abolish them but to complete them. Yes indeed! I tell you that until heaven and earth pass away (Revelation 22), not so much as a yod (dot) or a stroke (tittle) will pass from the Torah---not until everything (I think he means EVERYTHING here) that must happen has happened. So, whoever disobeys the least of these mitzvot and teaches others to do so will be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven. But whoever obeys them and so teaches will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven. for I tell you that unless your righteousness is far greater than that of the Torah-teachers and P'rushim (Pharisees), you will certainly NOT enter into the Kingdom of Heaven."---Complete Jewish Bible Got news for y'all----I ain't taking any chances. I'm following the Torah. After reading this in not just this translation but the Amplified as well, Y'shua gets down and dirty with people who take His word and don't follow it to the letter. If you don't believe the Bible literally, you don't believe at all. He said, "Follow My Commandments". Uh, I think that means the teachings and instructions that were outlined in the Torah....and I'd rather follow them here and then have Him tell me I'm wrong, than to not follow them and be told I can't enter into the Kingdom. So I'm tithing. I'm giving offerings. I'm eating only clean meats. I'm keeping the Jewish feasts, cause we'll be doing them in the Kingdom anyway, might as well get used to doing them here. And you know what? Since I made that decision, I'm actually happier than I've been in a very long time. I'm actually at peace, because I believe I'm following the will of YHWH. Finally, after all these years. No I didn't start this thread to torpedo things. No I didn't start it to cause controversy. I've been taught for YEARS that Christians have to tithe. I've been a Christian for coming up on 40 years and all that time, I've been taught to tithe 10%. Not because of prosperity teachers, but because GOD said so. He said it in HIS WORD, and I'm doing it, no questions asked. I still want to hear what you all have to say. I've given my opinion. a.

Hi, Boy, do I have a hot-button topic for today.....I was attempting to make a dent in my living area this afternoon, and I had the radio on...I happened to catch the late J. Vernon McGee, who I have listened to it seems like forever. He was teaching out of Malachi, and boy, he hit a major nerve today. He started teaching on Malachi 3, which talks about the tithe and the storehouse...and oh my heavens I almost came off the floor. He actually taught that tithing WASN'T FOR THE CHURCH TODAY. Of course, he taught the usual, that we are "not under the law but under grace" but he also said that tithing was under the law and that the CHURCH DIDN'T HAVE TO TITHE, NOR STORE IN THE STOREHOUSE. Now I love Dr McGee, and I thank God for his ministry, but for me this teaching was just plain wrong. I'm thinking to myself, how irresponsible could this man be, and did he learn anything from Y'shua after he went home??? Yikes!!! I want to hear what y'all have to say....I know I sat there and listened with my jaw on the floor.... a.

Yes it is wrong. Furthermore, even if one day you could hook up with this woman, I have a feeling that she's going to dump you the same way. None is worth that aggravation. There ARE women who might be worth the 'aggravation', my friend. Why wouldn't a woman dump an unfaithful husband? Because I just get this hunch that this is not the case. Just by the way that the whole thing is presented, I have this feeling she's running around on her husband---- and that definitely is not worth the aggravation. And whether she's wronged or not, two wrongs do not make a right. Trust me, I sense this is toxic. Let's just call my feelings "man's intuition" Um, I dumped an unfaithful husband---but I did wait until my divorce was finalized before dating again. Plus, I immediately made arrangements to go into counseling so that I wouldn't make the same mistake again. a.

Um, I never quoted scripture of any kind. I used to work with (and will likely continue to work with) hospice patients. I know what end-of-life decisions, advance directives, and DNR means. I know first-hand how difficult it is for the families involved. It's not the easiest decision to make. However, it is the FAMILY'S decision and as far as I'm concerned, government has NO BUSINESS getting involved with a family decision. That's exactly what this directive will do---interject the GOVERNMENT into advanced directives, and EOL decisions. I don't think I'm way overboard on this. It isn't the government's decision. The only thing that will come out of this is it will make Kevorkian's death machine legal. a.

My Lord. This shouldn't surprise me, but it does. End-of-life issues are one thing, but to actively come out and tell people that they can KILL themselves is something completely different. There's end-of-life and then there's quality-of-life. Isn't anyone aware of the difference???

It's a real movie, folks!!!! It was on TCM a couple of weeks ago!!! It was on a digital channel last night. I couldn't watch it, I was laughing too hard....

I didn't get to see a lot either...but I kinda like things like White Christmas (of course), Miracle on 34th Street (the original), The Santa Clause 1&2 (haven't seen 3 yet)...there was one I got to see a little bit of called The Christmas Clause with Lea Thompson...but my favorite was on PBS---The Nutcracker Suite...love that every year...I may celebrate Hanukkah instead of Christmas, but that doesn't mean I don't still enjoy the Christmas movies & stuff... a.

This cannot be right. If Jesus' linage goes through Joesph, then He is not the Son of God. God made Mary pregnant with Jesus, not Joseph, so Jesus' linage has to go through Mary only. It is my understanding from outside Bible writings that Joshph legally adopted Jesus. This makes him the legal son of Joseph and in line for the throne of David through the bloodline of Nathan. Genetically Jesus is the Son of God, and legally he is the son of Joseph who is of the bloodline of David through Nathan.. Mary is a decendent of Aaron which puts Jesus within the preist bloodline also If you really look through Mary's bloodline, she comes of the line of David also. It divides around the Hasmonean dynasty (between the "testaments").

I have to confess...I really enjoyed Christmas when I was younger. My mom would get so aggravated with me because I had the tree up before Halloween....she HATED Christmas. Absolutely. I think it all started going downhill after my father died in 1985. That Christmas was the most miserable one I ever had, but we kept it because of my nephews that were in the area. I knew it was never going to be the same. After I moved to Florida, I put up the tree only to see my cat climb in the thing and knock it over, or pee in it. After I left my ex husband, I didn't do much to celebrate Christmas, and to this day the only thing I ever put up was my mother's ceramic tree, which is now gone to somewhere I have no idea. I actually think it's easier now to celebrate Hanukkah. After all, the little 9-branched menorah I have is easy to carry around (unlike a tree), I get gifts for 8 days instead of just one, and I eat more food than I know how to handle for those 8 days instead of stuffing myself like a turkey for one day and being miserable. More importantly, it doesn't matter which holiday I celebrate---or at what time---the knowledge that Y'shua was born of a virgin (fulfilling a prophecy) in Bethlehem (Beit Lechem--house of bread) (again, another prophecy) and grew to be our sacrifice once and for all for sin is DAYENU----more than enough. a.

To be quite honest, I didn't know there was a 3rd and a 4th Maccabees....I've read most of the Apocrypha, and I consider it to be a collection of historical documentation....some of it factual, some of it...well...questionable at best. I believe that Y'shua and his talmudim would have known these stories as well. I enjoy the book of Tobit as well, for it's most interesting medicinal value... a.

Florida shooting a sign of persecution to come for Christians?
anitarose replied to Da Servant's topic in Prophecy
sorry, I think the OP read more into it than was necessary. Mr. Duke was just a mentally ill person who should have been at the very least medicated and at the very most institutionalized. I see no ties to prophecy in this incident; BUT..... I also believe that the OP *might* be correct in one particular area, even though this area isn't connected with this incident: the persecution of Christians in this country IS going to increase as the acharit-hayamim (the last days) come closer. We just need to keep being the light as the darkness continues. a. -
What in your studies of neurology and the brain lead you to this conclusion? I'm a bit curious since I know a bit about this area, but I can't think of any research that would support such a conclusion. Sam In a sense, it's like someone diagnosed with Alzheimer's. There's plaques blocking receptors preventing the brain to access different memories or what nurses refer to as ADL's (activities of daily living). There's a major disconnect between the physical, short-term memory and the long-term memory, and as the disease progresses, the memories fail. I think Neb's on the right track with this.

I am beginning to think that the only reason SOME people are here are just to be agitators. Point one: I am not stupid. Stop insinuating that I am. Point two: this is a CHRISTIAN board---please tell me why we have people here who clearly do NOT believe in the inerrancy of the Scriptures, nor in the fact that the Hebrew nation has been around for 5,771 years and can document every single one of those years. That in itself smacks of bigotry and anti-Semitism. Point three: Intelligent design makes a LOT more sense than coming up out of some ooze somewhere in the galaxy. Or some sort of a "Big Bang". In order to have the symmetry of the world, there HAS to be some sort of a Creator that brought it out into order from chaos. Final point: Those who believe in evolution just aren't seeing the bigger picture. Do you believe that there's life somewhere in "outer space"??? How about different dimensions??? If you believe both, guess what---you believe in a Heaven and a Hell. You are DENYING the very ONE who created you. There is no primordial soup. There IS a Creator. He is KING over the universe and at the end of days, HE WILL DENY YOU AND SEND YOU TO EVERLASTING TORMENT. There is still time to change. Unless you still want to continue calling all of us on this board stupid. Then God will have something to say about THAT... a.

I have no knowledge of such things. I only believe what the Scripture says, and I fought against all of this even in school when it was taught to me. BTW, I read where Darwin, on his death bed, repented of teaching this stuff and acknowledged that the world was formed by a Creator who's name is YHWH. After all, Darwin was originally a graduate of a seminary, which one I don't remember. It was nice to see him come back to the faith he shunned when he wrote this stuff. a.

That's true, if you want to believe that the earth is 5,771 years old there is nothing at all preventing you from using a literal interpretation of the Bible to do so. However, if you want anyone else to care about your opinion you need to be able to support it with evidence. Is not God the author of both the bible and the universe? If so, then if Genesis is a literal account of earth's history it should line up with earth's actual history, yet this is clearly not the case. That's why YECs have to resort to things like creating obviously flawed models that predict all rabbits went extinct thousands of years ago and then present it as if it actually models reality. They are banking on your ignorance, don't prove them right. Lurker So you're telling Anita that those who base their theories and beliefs on the Bible are liars.........and that SHE is ignorant. What a charmer you are, Lurker. Wow...I'm ignorant...I never knew that....so much for my going to school and trying to gain an education, because obviously it's not worth it---and all because Lurker (and the name fits well, BTW) says that I'm ignorant. Wow... a.

I trust you will forgive the intrusion, but I have a question: is there some way to prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that those "computer models" might actually be factual? Without going into Scripture to do so? I think so. All I have to do is look at the year on a Hebrew calendar and pretty much know that man has lived for roughly 5,771 years. And I don't even have to do anything scientific to prove that. a.
