  1. what's all the hoopla about? when we begin to read about the creation account, the earth was there. doesn't say anything about forming the actual sphere of the earth or the remainder of the universe. just the things on the earth, in natural, scientific, chronological order. i don't know what all the fuss is about, except maybe people reading things into it that are not there.
  2. yes, i know that your heart is in the right place on this however, it is important not to confuse our system of governance with majority rule. you wouldn't want mob rule. (another way of putting it)
  3. ummmm, that article is really hilarious. kind of strange, too, when you think about it.
  4. If it's the same old thing, why did the president call for it in his campaign speeches? Why did former Pres Bush mention it in his last (or next to last) state of the union address

  7. Judas Iscariot comes to mind without even a struggle ... i can see that. judas was like an undercover cop in a way. would you say this scripture only applied to that time when Christ was walking the earth as a living, breathing person then? if not, what would be an example for today
  8. so what would be an example of someone claiming to have fellowship with Christ but actually walking or living in darkness?
  9. What exactly is meant by the term 'spiritual darkness' ? (in this scriptural reference) This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all. 6 So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth. 7 But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin. put this way in the KJV: This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: This walking in darkness, would it be considered more the actions that one takes in their daily life or more like an attitude or belief system? I would really like to find an in-depth study about this and to hear the results of studies that you all may have undertaken in the past.
  10. that's a shocking statistic. I oppose war anywhere in the middle east. that could easily cause mass chaos all over the world. seems like a sure fire way to get israel attacked. why would not iran hold that threat over our head? in my opinion, a lose-lose situation.
  11. all of the above is very interesting. and enlightening. thank you for this.

  14. So. . . I walk outside at lunch time to smoke a cigarette. It is COLD ! Snow is blowing around as well. My chest begins to hurt quite badly. I take a few deep breaths but the cold air makes my lungs ache. Halfway to the smoking area, I light a cigarette and just shallowly inhale. I finish only half the cigarette. My chest doesn't feel so good and now my head is pounding as well. Wow, am i having a heart attack, I wondered ? Back in the lunch room, I carefully pull out some tums and an aspirin. Even the weight of my purse makes my chest hurt worse. Just to be on the safe side, I chew up the aspirin with the tums. I calm down and my chest gradually stopped hurting so I ate my sandwich. Maybe all is well. Back out in the cold I go to smoke another half cigarette before getting back to work for the afternoon. Okay. Now my chest really hurts and my head aches just with each heartbeat. I pray, of course, but I guess I'm a little scared. I don't know if I'll make it back to my desk. Walking makes it hurt. I take a phone call before I realize that I had better go home. I don't want to die at work. I know that sounds dramatic even as I think it, but I don't want my employers to call an ambulance for me either. I want to go home and lie on the couch. Peacefully. My husband comes to get me. He freaks out and wants to take me to the hospital, but I won't go. Just let me lie down and relax, I insist. He'll call an ambulance, he threatens. I won't go with them, I respond. God knows I want to go home with Him and I tell Him, I'm ready whatever He decides. My dog is upset though and won't get up off me. LOL I feel very peaceful although my chest really hurts. Then I think of something else. Did I mention I ate an entire order of Arby's curly fries before lunchtime ? If you know me, you know how unusual it is for me to eat french fries at all, so that many? It's downright crazy. Anyways, that was the reason for the tums. Once I was home, I took 2 more as well. No relief. What would you be thinking if you were me? Must be serious, right? Finally, duh, I ask my husband to make me some bicarb and lemon juice in a 1/2 cup of warm water. Need I say more, the results are obvious. I'm writing this down for posterity just 10 minutes after I thought my last goodbyes. So . . . LOL How weird am I ? Don't be afraid to say. I'm not easily offended!
  15. Oh. I feel for you. I don't know if it's normal or not but I believe it is important to examine any desire. Try to fully and truthfully analyze WHY you want this. Remember that you are in charge of your own emotions so take some time to think logically about it and figure out why you feel this way. That approach has helped me in the past with some things. And, of course, even just talking about it like you have might help also.
  16. He refuses to tell me what he believes. He is all about the love of God. Anything that does not show love is not of God. He does not believe that God called for the first born in Egypt, that the flood is true, that through Samuel, Saul was commanded to take the lives of every living being, and that Joshua was a sinner when he took the lives of everyone but Rahab and her family. He also teaches that sinners have Gods love in them, which is what I think you are referring to. picking and choosing from the bible, i do not understand. if i read a book on financial advice and 1 chapter told me to to take at least a thousand dollars and stock up on jelly beans, i would not think that's a credible book and would look elsewhere. before this person can go any further, he must know what salvation is. the freedom from the wages of sin, which is death. God gave His Son so that we may have everlasting life. If God can give His only Son, surely He can give the people in Jericho, or the Amalekites, or whoever He decides. We make the mistake of thinking these people written about in the OT are people like us. Well, maybe not. We have no idea and therefore cannot make a judgment. What we can do is accept that God is sovereign over HIS creation. Doesn't he understand that, back then, there were mothers who would place their babies in the arms of a molten hot statue for a sacrifice to bless themselves or the group? Doesn't he understand that, back then, you'd go to the temple and get drugged up and have orgies to please your god? Doesn't he understand that, back then, if you had visitors from out of town, the other townsfolk would want to fornicate with some fresh people (as happened in sodom) ? I say that this person's position is not loving. Quite the opposite. His position requires him to believe that starving children, or homeless families, or abused women, or beaten slaves or crippled animals have not the love of God; are in fact abandoned and ignored by God, since they don't reflect his view of the love of God. Last but not least, in order to change any of his views, he must come to see the touch of satan on the world and one more thing. the absolute Omnipotence of the Holy God. At the very least, but still too small and simple, God has the same prerogative with us as we do with a fly that has gotten into the kitchen.
  17. here is a truth: To be able to stare (In the face) anything this world throws at me and not fear the potential sting. What if this is what salvation is about - To live life free from the negative forces (Like fear) that we allow to control our inner/emotional well being? but this is a glaring wrong: Whether we believe in Him or not, I believe His spirit (The Comforter) can lead us to true liberty (Salvation). and this is a lesson for us all: Nearly every Christian proclaims salvation, but most Christians rarely offer a definition of what Christian salvation is. What 'exactly' does it mean to be saved, then?
  18. Thanks Blien. I found it enlightening. not surprising to me, since i am already familiar with the works of Walid Shoebat and am fervently supportive of this view of things.
  19. Much of this is a mystery, only understandable through the power of the Holy Spirit. I can only answer a small part - to say that we are all parts of the same body with Christ as the head. Maybe this will make the relationship more clear. In a spiritual way, we become one with Christ in the same way we become one with our earthly husbands and wives. In some mysterious way, a husband and wife become one person spiritually. Therefore, in some way, Christ and the whole church will become one. It is also prophesied that the Jew and the Gentile will become one person in some way. It is clear to me, then, that God is seeking unity in His creation. Jesus even speaks of this in a prayer to God, that He will bring unity to the Father. John 17:23 I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me. this one speaks to your question about other people being involved. Other people are key parts and can't be forgotten. Ephesians 4:13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ. I recommend reading the entire Ephesians 4. (only because I find that verse so powerful in my own life)

  21. we all really really need to understand that the world we see around us every day is not all there is. that we're surrounded by what we cannot yet see.

  23. why do you care? we preach against lying, theft, adultery, murder, sexual deviance of all kinds. it's what we preach for that would solve it all: love your neighbor as you love yourself. put their needs above your own. if we all did that? wow, what a wonderful world it would be (lol, as the song goes). i'm sorry to say that i have never seen a happy homosexual. i've known many; the seeming happiness with the lifestyle is a facade. why support it, why not help them out of it, instead. God can do that. I've seen unhappy closet homosexuals. But the ones who come out are much happier. They're free to be themselves. You have no right and are in no position to say that their happiness is a facade. Leave them be. It would be a wonderful world if no one judged anyone, but you claim scripture to do just that. sure i have a right to. it is not judgment to say someone is unhappy. it is empathy to notice it and to take the time to see if it can be fixed. this is the meaning of 'love your neighbor'. you go ahead and leave everyone alone. live and let live. don't notice what's under the surface. those shallow perceptions will insulate you from the grief of those around you.
  24. evolution can never be real to me because latent genetic traits explain all. with this understanding, most of the theories in evolutionary science just appear silly.
