  1. Qvedya, thanks for your comment, but I disagree with One being just a number. There is ONE God. Jesus said, "I and the Father are ONE."(Unity)(John 10:30) ONE Lord, ONE Faith, ONE Baptisim. (Ephesians 4:5) ONE way to the Father. John 14:16 The two shall become ONE referring to marriage. (unity)Genesis 2:24 ONE flock and ONE shepherd (John 10:16 All of you are ONE in Christ - Galatians 3:28 ONE mediator between God and men - 1 Timothy 2:5
  2. Floatingaxe, I love your name...one of my favorite stories in the Bible! I too enjoyed what you posted about what our local churches should be. I don't think we should confuse local churches with those we see on TBN or the God Channel. A lot of local churches have some real God fearing individuals who are truly seeking the Lord. I know that is the exception and not the norm, but they are out there. I live in really small town and it still took us a while to find a church that was only interestd in teaching "hath God said", ministry to those in need and saving souls. Praise God we are so blessed to have found this church. I do have friends in other areas that seem to have only those 'false churches' to choose from and are resorting to what the early Christians did, they are meeting in homes. We as the body of Christ are the church. Scripture says were two are more are gathered, I will be in there (paraphrased).
  3. One thing about guessing the date is that one day someone will be right. The when doesn't matter if you are prepared.
  4. I have a study Bible that breaks down Psalms 19 like this: Verses 1-6 show the blessings of heaven: declares God's glory show His handiwork they (the heavens) declare even though they don't have voice it shows knowledge Verses 7-11 show the blessings of God's Word: converts the soul makes the simple wise enlightens the eyes (understanding) just as the sun enlightens the earth rewards the obedient Verses 12-14 requests to be blessed by God reveal the faults and cleanse from them let our words and thoughts be acceptable The why part of this would be purely speculation on my part.
  5. OhHamburgers, well said.
  6. Traveller, I agree.
  7. OneLight, I don't actually have a list per say. I have several books on cults, which Islam falls into the category of along with a lot of information I have searched out on the internet from different Christian sites that have so much knowledge about all this to the point that it becomes overwhelming. The only reason I have these specific things in some order is because of some personal encounters with those who have claimed that God and Allah are the same. I went through all my references and notes to find these few comparisons that show Jehovah and Allah are not one in the same. Someday I would love to be able to have the time to put all the information into some format that would make it really easy to see all the differences. Thank you for your interest.
  8. E. W. Bullinger, minister and Biblical Scholar, wrote a book entitled "Numbers in Scripture" which is about 400 pages. It shows how nothing of God is random or chance that all is ordered and has meaning. He studied the importance of numbers in Scripture, how God tells us in His word that He is the same, today, yesterday and tomorrow (pharapased). Festivals, Jubilee's, and seasons all have signifigance in Scripture. The stars have meanings, but not the twist that the horoscopes put on them. Everything has meaning. Everything is done with purpose. There are many other theologians who understand the importance of numbers in Scripture. If you understand when and why things were done then some of the meanings become more clear. The Jews understood the importance of when and why things were done. God counted and numbered the stars (Psalms 147:4, Isaiah 40:6) Why? Numbers have meaning. FORTY for example: Number of days it rained before the flood - Genesis 7:17 The spies in Canaan - Numbers 13;25 Years of wandering in the desert - Numbers 32:3 Forty days the Goliath came and took his stand agains Israel - 1 Samuel 17:16 Reign of David, Solomon - 1 Kings 2:11; 11:42 Probation for Ninevah, Jonah 3:4 Temptation of Jesus - Luke 4:1-2 Ministry after resurrection - Acts 1:3 Book, chapter and verse may have come long after the Canon of Scripture was closed, but, call me simple minded, I believe that the God is able to speak the world into existance, is able to guide those who put the Bible in order. I believe that God guided those men. I don't think chance played any part of how we got the Bible we use today. If you believe God could inspire over 40 different authors to write the Bible , then why not believe that the order was also inspired.
  9. Onelight....thank you for pointing out about my error in the title....I never can remember the right name for the study of numbers and their meaning. Hunter, people much more informed than me, studied Scripture and the use of numbers in the Word.
  10. MAN.....All this time I thought it was George Bush that was responsible! Good post by the way.
  11. Since I do not know how, OR, if a post can be deleted or how to change the title, I am removing the content. This was not meant to be devisive or lead anyone astray, it was only meant to be intersting, not Gospel.
  12. Thank you all for your comments. Josh13...good point you brought out.
  13. "The church should be preparing people to persevere and trust God through all persecution and tribulations, but instead is directing the sheep to pack for a vacation." YOD....amen! IMO people want to believe in a rapture theory (brought to this country in the 1800's by John Nelson Darby) because they are more interested in their disappearing that the glorious appearing. There are way to many examples in Scripture of God protecting his people THROUGH trials and tribulations, not removing them from them. What makes us so special that we would be magically wisked away and escape all persecution. Nothing! Tribulation is not Wrath. Sorry, thats not the original question. We are trying to understand Eastern language with a Western mind. The symbols use in Revelation with regards to the countries that come into play referred to those countries that existed in that time. Assyrian Empire - Lion (Symbolized by a lion (Jer 50:17,18) Babylonian Empire - Lion with wings and the eagle (Symbolized by the head of gold (Dan 2:38, a lion with eagles wings (Dan 7:5) Medo-Persian Empire - Bear and the ram (symbolized by the breastplate and arms of silver (Dan 2:39), the bear (Dan 7:5) and a ram (Dan 8:3-4, 20) Grecian Empire - Leopard with wings, He-goat with horn and the he-goat with 4 horn (symbolized by the belly and thighs of brass (Dan 2:39), the leopard with 4 heads and 4 wings (Dan 7:6), the rough he-goat with horn (Dan 8:5-9, 21) and the he-goar with 4 horns (Dan 8:8-9, 21-23) Old Roman Empire - symbolized by 2 legs of Iron (Dan 2:33, 40) the non-descript beast (Dan 7:7, 8, 17), the 10 horns (Dand 7:23-24; Rev 12:3, 13:1, 17:8-17) and the beast of Rev 17 Revelation 17:10 tells us that there are 7 kings and 5 are fallen. (Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece) 6 is the old Roman Empire and the 7th is yet to come. It is made up of the 10 kingdoms that are yet to be formed inside the old Roman empire. (you need Biblical maps) to see all that the old Roman empire covers. The beast that was and is not, is the 8th. The 8th kingdom succeeds the 7 preceeding kingdoms but is made up of one of the original 7. The 10 kingdoms are future, not yet formed (at the time Revelation was written) .
  14. I agree with MMMI, with the exception of the persoanl space statement. That comment is not something Scripture has laid out for us. The dimensions of the New Jerusalem, yes, but beyond that no. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. To say exactly where heaven is in my opinion is purely speculation. Revelation tells us that there will be a new heaven and a new earth, the first will pass away. (Rev. 21:1)The Holy City comes down out of heaven from God (Rev. 21:2). Jesus also said that is going to prepare a place for us, that where He is, we may be also. Heaven is wherever God is. Beyond what is written in Revelation, I think we are guessing.
  15. God absolutely gave foreknowledge....it's called the Old Testament. There were types and shadows of Christ throughout the OT. The Old Testament is revealed in the New Testament. It would have to be 'prior' to the NT in order for it to be 'fore-knowledge".
  16. O'Dannyboy, thank you for your comment. I tried to keep this as brief as possible and still make the point. The Jews would definately fall into the infidel category. Islam believes that all who are not followers of Islam are worthy of death. There is just way to much information to post on this in one post. You made so good points and I appreciate it. Thanks!!
  17. Glory, thank you. I appreciate your comment.
  18. Allah is NOT the God of the BIBLE. Yes, Allah is the Arabic word for God. but Allah of the Quran and God of the Bible are NOT the same. It is the question of whether you can say you are worshipping the same God when there are two distinctly different understandings of the nature of God. Muslims do not believe in a Triune God. Christians do. There are some very important differences between Allah of the Quran and the God of the Bible. THE BIBLE SAYS: Jesus is the only begotten son of God. Salvation is available to us through the sacrifice of God
  19. Great question and one that I think most of us tend to forget to do every day...and that is be thankful. I am thankful that I serve the Living God, who loved me enough to send His Son to die for my sins! I am thankful to know that God still performs miracles though some think the age of miracles is over. My 13 year old grandson was critically injured in a fall last September. His brain was so severly damaged they said he would not live. He did. They said if he lives, he will not walk, talk, speak or be able to take care of himself. He can, he does and he is! Thank you Jeuss. He went back to school after 4 months finished his grade and was promoted to the next grade with a "b" average. All of this is a direct result of prayer and the wonderful healing power of God. All Glory and honor to God!
  20. Actually, the article states the "world" needs to do this, not just the US. "The world needs to invest $45 trillion in energy in coming decades, build some 1,400 nuclear power plants and vastly expand wind power in order to halve greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, according to an energy study released Friday" However, I do agree with you. Why the leaders of this country choose to turn a blind eye to the fuel needs we have is beyond me. Why do we need to be dependent on foreign oil? It's really sad when you can read about other countries , and some of them considered third world countries at that, who are talking necessary steps to not be dependent on foreign oil. They are building nuclear plants, dams, and so. What an inditement to the powers that be who are holding us hostage to foreign oil.
  21. I have heard that the ESV is a good translation but that the NASB is one of the more accurate ones. When it comes to really digging into the Word, I still believe KJV is best, because most lexicons and concordances like Strong's work hand in hand with KJV. I have several different translations myself and enjoy them for daily devotional readings, but not for real indepth study.
  22. Satan can tempt us just as he did with Jesus in the desert. Satan offers us materialism and power if we will bow down and worship him, but we can resist the temptation the same as Jesus did. Satans has no creative powers or no powers to "make" us do anything. He can tempt us, but we also have the power to resist if we stand on the Word. Sin is what blinds us to the truth. Not Satan. Satan exploits whatever weakness we have, if we let him. Jesus clearly demonstrated the importance and effectiveness of knowing and applying Scripture to combat temptation. (Matthew 4:1-11)
  23. Thanks for reminding me....I should have posted where I found this!
