Cars, driving

Why do we let our tempers flare when behind the wheel? Both Christians and non-Christians do this. Including me.

We can cruise the aisles at the store in a leisurely manner, chat with the checkout person, and slowly walk to our cars. Take our time putting the groceries in. Fasten our seat belts and then sit there while we find our favorite CD or radio station.

Then we hit the road and every little pause causes anger, road rage, horn blowing, cussing someone out, etc.

I wonder why driving has this influence on so many of us? Any ideas?

In His Love,

Bro John

My husband used to be a road-rager but isn't anymore. He says it just eventually stopped.

You're right though. If we were walking and someone walked in front of us, we would start yelling or anything. The car is the comfort zone somehow. A friend who wasn't a Christian was perfectly nice and polite all the time, but once she started driving, she felt it necessary to yell and critisize other drivers. I used to make fun of her and she stopped, realizing how silly it was and how really out of character she was acting.

I've got an idea. Put a 'God loves you' bumper sticker on your car. Maybe front and back so all can see it and then remember that while you're driving, you are a witness.

Maybe we think we are anonymous in the car. I dunno.

About 3 weeks ago, a lady almost sideswiped me while coming out of the grocery store. I was with my daughter and had to swerve and while I swerved, I gave her a 'yikes' look just because I actually was scared. Once I had straightened out and we were both in our own lanes, and we just kept driving as if nothing had happened. And then I realized that I knew her. It was my neighbour from across the street! I said to my daughter "Isn't that the lady across the street"? and she said "I thought she looked familiar"! So I was really glad I never honked or anything because if I recognized her, she probably recognized me too.

Believe it or not, I'm one of those drivers that will stop and let someone out if they're blocked, pull over so they can pass if I'm going too slow, etc. The main thing that bugs me is if someone is riding my rear. Then, I just usually slow down gradually until we're going about 20 or 30 mph.

Your right LCPGUY

So many people have a jackal and hide mentality when it comes to cars. Maybe the car is like a suit of armor. Maybe people who have road rage are hating the other car without realizing that their is a human inside of it?? it is very strange indeed.

Oh yes i like your gif:

Honestly, driving isn't one of my downfalls. I let everyone cut in front of me because I'm never in a hurry. (I leave in ample time to get wherever I'm going because I always leave super early because I have a fear of being late) If I have to push, I'd say the only thing, that doesn't get me upset really but it makes me nervous, is when bicyclers ride next to my car. I don't want to hit them and my judgment is not the greatest so they are really taking a chance by riding close to me.

I never yell at anyone in traffic. One guy flipped me the finger and I blew him a kiss. (not sure why he did it) Anyway, I never swear at people. The last time I was caught off-guard and got angry, I said "NOT GOOD".

Other things make me tick but not rude drivers.

I do think about that- I have a Jesus fish on my car, so I try to always be (and look) pleasant, even if I'm in a bad mood about something!

I use to have a bit of road rage...........it seems every time I would be in a hurrry someone would pull out in front of me. But God really delt with me on this. He showed me that all things work together for my good.

I was trying to get home from work one day as fast as I could but the faster I wanted to go, the slower I went. I was gettin frustrated bad.......then the Spirit gently said to me "You can't out run destiny"

So for the past few years, every time someone pulls out in front of me or gets on my rear, I pray for them. Now I'm actually excited when it happens because I have an oppertunity to go before God on their behalf.

Could you imagine walking around heaven and someone walks up to you and says "Thank you so much" you say "what did I do" they say " God just told me I wouldn't be here unless you prayed....... on earth I was driving so close to your car that I could read the logo on the back of your hat but you had mercy.

In his love,

Brian

Why do we let our tempers flare when behind the wheel?

One word - IMPATIENCE.

When your goal is to get to point B, you just want to be there now. But, if you determine to enjoy the ride, "problem drivers" don't bother you so much. I speak from personal experience.

*************************

Something I heard someone say:

"Ever notice how anyone who drives faster than you is a maniac, but anyone who drives slower than you is an idiot?"

Good point!
