Why So Much Pork?

How do states that don't have an income tax pay for projects for their state? With pork? I hope this isn't the only way. Is that what they use for an excuse for asking for so much pork from Washington?

That's a great question Kat... WHY so much pork? I guess we really should ask our local state representatives and senators why they put so much in there.... I know they are supposed to bring back as much taxpayer money as possible to their states, but at what expense?

They pay for it with sales taxes, luxury taxes and many more.

Fla basically has a tourist tax and hotels and all that sort of stuff is highly taxed and a major source of income.

hey gator---what about the states that have no sales taxes? for instance new hampshire- i dont know if they have income taxes or not but do you have any idea on this one?

Here in Texas we don't have an income tax or sales tax on food. Sales tax on other things is 8.25%

It is, but I thought we were getting off easier than states that have income tax, and tax on food and other things.

I didn't even think about property tax, not being a property owner. I don't know what the situation in Texas is. Then there are all the other taxes and fees. They don't seem unreasonable to me, but if I owned property I may change my tune.

When a state is free of one tax you can rest assured that they are making up for it elsewhere with other taxes. Texas for example has no state income tax but compensates by having ridiculous "property" taxes. Where many states tax people for owning land Texas taxes certain possessions such as mobile homes and vehicles. In addition they also require vehicles be registered every year. Granted they have excellent schools and roads but nothing seems immune from taxation except income. If you think about it the lack of an income tax probably seems very appealing to those who make a good deal of money. If only their assets are being taxed they can find ways to write them off whereas any source of income like interest on savings is fair game.
