"Hippo" hit the nail on the head in her post. In the New Testament the Greek word, "HAMARTIA" is translated "SIN". It is from the Greek word that we get the word used in theology to describe the study of sin, "Hamartiology".

The word "HAMARTIA" (pronounced hay-mar-tee-uh) literally means "Missing The Mark". Like Hippo noted, the idea is one of an archer's arrow MISSING the target (NOT necessarily the center). Therefore, SIN is missing the mark OR the target, that GOD intended.

One scripture that I believe best projects this basic idea is Romans 3:23. It is a CONTINUOUS ACTION ("come short")...we continually fall short of GOD's glory (HIS Righteousness). To deny this is being a liar, and would indicate that there is no need for us to have a SAVIOUR, which would makes all that CHRIST did for us null and voi d. But along with this is our transgression of HIS Law, which is a DESCRIPTION of sin. The word, "Transgress" means to go across a FORBIDDEN border or line. It is like the hunter hunting on "posted" property. To sin is to defy GOD's holy law, and for YOU and I as Christians the result is the IMMEDIATE loss of fellowship with our FATHER.

Thank our FATHER that CHRIST, HIS SON paid the penalty for sin and its results (John 3:16), and that when you and I do sin we have an ADVOCATE, a HIGH PRIEST in Heaven, WHO speaks for YOU and I daily by way of our CONFESSING our sins (1 John 1:9), and in the process restoring our fellowship with HIM. If HE is your SAVIOUR you will never see the ULTIMATE result of sin......spiritual death (Revelation 20:11-15.....21:8).

All I know about sin is, if you dont confess it before the father and repent of it you don't get forgiven. What is sin? It's a condition of our soul that we are born with. It is not something you do.

Confess a sin that I didn't commit? I don't understand...never heard of that before.

Sin is not an overt act? Where did you get that from? Why would the Bible tell us not to sin, if it wasn't within our power to sin?

Steve.

Sorry Steve I'oll try again.

The bible tells that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory Of God.

The bible also tells us if we confess our sins, He will be faithful and forgive our sin/s and cleanse from all unrighteousness. Now that being said it does't mean that we are not still sinners, because sin latched it self onto our soul the moment Adam fell. I'm not talking about cofessing a sin you did not commit, I'm talking about confessing the sin you were born with.

I was born a sinner, I dont have to go out and commit any particular transgression,

and I will die a sinner, albeit a forgiven one, becaused I have been justified by a covering of the shed blood of Jesus. Sin is not like flu that can be cured, it's more of a syndrone. Of course sin is an overt act, it's because it's the sin we were born with that causes us to steal or whatever. Now your stealing can be cured, but the sin that caused it cant, because sin is of the flesh. and until our bodies are conformed after we leave this life, we'll continue to trip and stumble and keep on repenting and being forgiven.

Anyway that's the way I see it I am a forgiven sinner.

cheers,

eric.

I guess I wil have to agree to disagree with you eric.

I know orginal sin came into this world by the means of Adam and Eve. Niether one of them were born sinners. How ever they were given the ability to make there own choice. There Choice led to some prety heavy consequencs for there disobiedance to God. But God took care of the orginal sin and gave His orgianl Love when he put His son on the Cross.

I guess the point I'm trying to get to is that none of us for the most part were born addicted to drugs, addicted sex or gambling. These are all consider to be sins. None of us were born with these life styles of sin. However, the consequences of my choices either made for be by some one or made by myself are the only things that caused me to sin. We can argue for hours on this topic and I see that there is gonna be no agreement bewteen us on this issue. So I will agree to dissagree with you and leave it at that.

Thanks for sharing

Yes, I understand that. But you cited confession and original sin in the same context. How can I confess or repent of original sin, something I didn't do? :t2:

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
