:D About a month ago I wrote something in the Spiritual Warfare section, then got some good advice. I have also been in contact with a very helpful person. This person told me that some of my problems could stem from not being filled with the Holy Spirit. She has given me some great insight, and scripture, but I was wondering what others thought about this topic??????

Also How do you become filled with the Holy Spirit?????? :t2:

You are filled with the Holy Spirit the very second you are regenerated.

I see evidence in scripture where Christians were told to be filled with the Spirit. Here is some info:

The HOLY SPIRIT is a gift.

You have to ask the LORD for the HOLY SPIRIT.

Lu 11:13

If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

The filling of the Spirit is the influence or control the Holy Spirit exercises over us when we yield ourselves to Him. The Spirit of God, who has given us new life and who has taken up residence within us, wants to fill our lives with His goodness and power. He wants us to let Him take control of our lives. Even so, He does not use His power as God to overwhelm us; rather, He fills us only as we submit to Him.

In this sense, then, being filled with the Spirit means that we have placed ourselves under His influence and control. We have yielded to Him, letting Him take over our lives.

We often speak of something that so fills a person's mind that it strangely influences everything he thinks and does. For example, a person can be filled with:

Anger, fear, jealousy, remorse, sorrow, pride, love, or anxiety

The Bible itself uses the word "filled" in the same way (see Luke 6:11; Acts 5:17; 13:45).

To be filled with something, therefore, means to be under its control. This truth is stated clearly regarding the Holy Spirit in Ephesians 5:18, "And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit." Paul used this analogy because a person who becomes intoxicated with alcohol places himself under its influence or control. Similarly, a Christian who submits to the leading of the indwelling Holy Spirit puts himself under His influence or control. Both the person who consumes enough alcohol to become drunk and the Christian who yields to the Holy Spirit have placed themselves under the control of something or someone outside themselves.

We are greatly influenced by whatever it is that "fills" us. If we are filled with anger, we will be influenced to such an extent that we will say and do things we may later regret. A person who is filled with anger against God may become so controlled by his hatred that he becomes irreverent, blasphemous (sp?), defiant, and rebellious toward everything.

To be filled with the Holy Spirit, then, is to be so influenced by, controlled by, or permeated by Him that we will reflect God's moral character and be strengthened by His power. We will be loving, joyful, peaceful, patient, kind, good, faithful, gentle, and self-controlled--virtues that Paul referred to as "the fruit of the Spirit" (Galatians 5:22,23).

Lest this discussion delve into the issue of whether or not we have to be filled with the Holy Spirit to receive power, gifts, tongue speaking etc., etc. (Ad-Nauseum), let us be clear and agree that the moment a person believes into the Lord Jesus and confesses His Lordship before creation, he is filled with the Holy Spirit.

I really (really, really, really) do not wish to see yet another argument over the baptism in the HS, tongue speaking, and the issue of "Holy Spirit baptismal salvation."

If we all agree that a person is filled with the Holy Spirit (Actually, the entire Triune God) the moment he believes into Christ, then we can continue with a more profitable discussion. Jeannine, have you received Christ? If so, then the Spirit has already filled you. If not, then you need to be filled!

I'm not getting into the whole gifts thing and I really don't want to either because that's gonna get real ugly. So....

you said: moment a person believes into the Lord Jesus and confesses His Lordship before creation, he is filled with the Holy Spirit.

While I agree with this 100%, I would also add that you must submit to Him per what I wrote previously. Satan believes in God too, Satan knows God is the most high God. That's why I say you must ALSO submit your life to Him.

So I agree with everything you said - I just added something to be more precise.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
