He believed in purgatory and baptismal regeneration. Can anyone verify this or shed light on David Cloud or Jesus is Savior.com ? I used to like C.S Lewis books but they didnt always sit easy with me for an unknown reason. These days i ask myself what were his fruits in the way of souls saved and what authority was he under for correction and submission?

He had spot on doctrine and didn't need commentaries to understand the Word of God... That being said I personally think that after reading the Word and after much prayer it is sometimes useful to look at what someone else's view of the text is. Also as I'm no scholar, finding out about the context of the time etc. is really helpful in understanding the meaning of the text. Keep in the Word! These days i ask myself what were his fruits in the way of souls saved and what authority was he under for correction and submission? He also bought into evolution. So what? The idea of investigating how many souls he saved is also something we shouldn't be concerned about. It's not a contest and the man was not a Preacher nor did he pretend to be an Evangelist. He constantly stated that he was a layman in the Church. Peace, Dave

I do feel the same way. I am very skeptical of anyone else's teachings besides those directly from the Bible.

The Bible is the only book I read from. It is the only one I trust.

I read my Bible each day, but I cannot imagine not reading the works of writers who are so gifted and talented. I'm not reading them the same way in which I see Scriptures - I just do not limit myself to the Bible alone.

Like me he did drink a beer now and then and actually did go to church. He gave away close to 70% of his income to the poor in his lifetime; people did not know that until after his death. His books have converted hundreds of thousands of people to faith in Christ or led them to faith, he was a great evangelist, and his books are doctrinally very sound. I guess his one downfall was that he was very intelligent and had an advanced degree; I realize that in some circles this makes one very suspect. Why do we always tear apart our own? What is that need to bring down people to continually bite and devour other Christians, I just don
